Jon Turtletaub, director/co-producer of 2004's "National Treasure", tells Daily News that Jon Voight, Diane Kruger and Harvey Keitel will all be rejoining Nicolas Cage for the upcoming sequel
"Everyone’s back except anyone who’s in jail or died", he said.
The first film followed archaeologist Benjamin Franklin Gates (Cage) on a search for a hidden treasure from the 1700s secretly mapped out on the back of the Declaration of Independence.
“A lot of people said, ‘No one will ever go see this,’?” recalls Turteltaub. “But we really thought the world wanted smart action heroes and liked history and puzzles and I guess we were right.”
According to the director, the sequel will take our intrepid adventurers to “exciting destinations within America as well as around the world. As we were shooting the first one, it kept changing, so I’m scared to commit to anything, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Mount Rushmore made an appearance.”
This is one of the few seuqels I am looking forward to. National Treasure was one of the most well written scripts in a long time, and if they can maintain the interesting puzzle solving, then they will most def have a good following for the sequel.
PG13 = not so fun. The only thing that kept that movie going was Nicolas Cage and he will be the reason to watch this one aswell.

Well, from what I have just read, the title might be National Treasure 2 after all...

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer tells MTV that the highly-anticipated sequel to National Treasure is getting underway.
"I met with Nic yesterday, and it's getting very close," he said. "We're going to start filming in January."
Discussing the National Treasure 2 script, Bruckheimer revealed: "It's another little treasure hunt, and this time it involves [Abe] Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth and 18 pages which are actually missing from [Booth's] diary."
Teasing the plot further, Bruckheimer posed the central question of the sequel. "What was in those 18 pages?" he asked.
problem is that when you fuck with a good thing you create shit
I can only think of a handful of sequels that were as good if not better than the original as opposed to fucking thousands of sequels that sucked major ass

I am in my Indiana Jones phase again and I just can't help but think how lame National Treasure really was when compared the thing they try to pull off... Even with Nic Cage (one of my faves) in the role!
But, National Treasure 2 > International Treasure.

True, but as long as they have have the same intelligent scriptwriting, they should be a-ok.
At least the storyline makes room for a sequel. Some other sequels flopped because their storylines almost forced a sequel.

On November 15th, Disney Enterprises registered two domain names for National Treasure 2 that give a clue as to what the sequel's subtitle might be. The company bought the names NationalTreasure2TheBookofSecrets.com and TheBookofSecretsNationalTreasure2.com.
"The Book of Secrets" makes sense, considering that producer Jerry Bruckheimer said previously that the sequel involves Abraham Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth and 18 pages which are actually missing from Booth's library.
Director Jon Turteltaub and stars Nicolas Cage, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight and Harvey Keitel return for the sequel, targeted for a December 21, 2007 release.
The Book Of Secrets? Sounds kinda like another Blair Witch sequel...

The Rapid City Journal reports that Disney will film National Treasure: Book of Secrets at Mount Rushmore National Memorial next month. Here's a clip:
Plans include location shooting at Mount Rushmore's Hall of Records, the tall tunnel carved directly behind the monument itself. Baker said he told the producers he wanted only a small film crew to go up there, and he said they were willing to reduce the size of the crew.
"It's an area of concern from a safety standpoint and a security standpoint. I don't mind a few (people) up there," Baker said.
The producers had no plans to film on the face of Mount Rushmore, which is off limits, Baker said.
Yeah, heard that there was quite a bit of improv with regards to the first movie, when it came to making it, and hopefully like the last time around, it’ll work out!

JoBlo has learned that Oscar-winner Helen Mirren (The Queen) will play Nicolas Cage's mother, Emily Gates, in Walt Disney Pictures' National Treasure: Book of Secrets.
The site says that Emily will help link Gage's Ben Gates to his family's connection to John Wilkes Booth and the mysterious Knights of the Gold Circle.
And the bad guy this time around? Four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris. He'll play Jeb Wilkinson, who has some information about Gates' father and aligns himself as an ally.
Returning for the Jon Turteltaub-directed sequel are Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel.
Yeah, Ed should make a pretty good bad guy here.

Ed FTW. He likes being the bad guy when Cage is the good guy. He does play the part really well though.

For me the first one was one of the best written scripts. I also read that as they went along making the movie, they actually changed the script as they went along. Awesome stuff, and I am looking forward to the sequel.
