Four necks. Two sound holes. 42 strings. Two access doors; one on the upper player's side and one at the tail block.

Created by luthier Linda Manzer for guitarist Pat Metheny, the instrument took 2 years to build (approximately 1000 hours), and when the 42 strings are strung up to high tension, the Pikasso is under approximately 1000 lbs pressure. It weighs 6.7 kg or 14 3/4 lbs.

No joke, this is a real 42-string guitar. (For those of you that don't know, a standard single-neck guitar has 6 or 12 strings!)

WTF is the purpose? I have enough troubles learning the normal guitar back in the day, but this almost makes my head spin. wacko.gif

If that is real (looks unbelievable to me ) it is just lame to have it or even try to play on it...

That just doesn't look practical.

Surely each set of strings needs it's own fretboard so as to play the different chords?
This just doesn't look plausible.

You would think so; I can't figure out how you'd fret anything on those other necks unsure.gif

I'll see if I can track down one of those recordings, I'd love to hear how someone plays that thing.

This pic of Michael Angelo Batio is more plausible:

I've got a video of this pic with him soloing; although only two necks can be played at a time, I suppose it would be useful to have different tunings across the 4 necks.

Haha. I had a hard enough time playing one set of strings tongue.gif

Nice find!
