I installed my sound system in my car last year some time, with quite a lot of help form Sliver, and then I came across this problem, but the solution I came up with isn't working too well.

The speakers I bought to use as the front splits ,are a bit too deap, so when you wind the window all the way down, the read part of the speaker gets in the way... dry.gif These are installed in my two front doors btw.

Now at the time we just cut out a piece of wood, in a circle and attatched that to the door where the speaker would go, and then the speaker was screwed into that. It was just about 1 or 2 cm deep, just enough so that the speaker gets pushed out a little bit from the door and doesn't interfere with the working of the window.

Since I've done that almost always when people get in and out of my car, especially the passenger side, they seem to kick my speaker by accident! This has happened often and the mesh covering the speaker is just pushed in around the plastic speaker housing. This cover has been kicked off so often and it's just a nuisance, and also I'm sure it's not good for my speakers to be kicked so often! sad.gif

Another problem I noticed yesterday was that one piece of the wood that the speaker is resting on, on the passenger side, has somehow broke off! I noticed it partially hanging out a few days ago so I just pushed it back in. But that isn't a long term solution.

What do you guys who know about this stuff than I do, recommend I do? Is there anyway I could mount the speakers without using those wooden "spacers"?

My car is a Ford Tracer incase that helps at all wink.gif

Any help much appreciated.

Hey Azgard. Firstly smack the passengers that kick you speakers because that is just careless.
Unfortunately you will always need to use a spacer for the speakers.
Maybe cut some round spacers that are a bit wider than the speakers instead of the ones that you are using they wont break then and then people would kick the spacer instead of the speaker.
Then you can make another round cover that you can screw onto the spacer so you speaker fits more flush then that should prevent people from kicking the mesh cover off.
If you shape it right and spray paint it in a colour that matches it should work well and look good.

Lol, thanks. Some good ideas there. I'll see what I can do, not too good with wood work and that kinda stuff but will do some measurements just now and see what I can come up with.

I'm trying to find a better place for my amp, any ideas?

What you could also do is get someone to make spacers for you, someone who has a wood lathe or something, you'll need a thick piece of wood or whatever you want to use as a spacer, get them to cut a reccess into the material the size of your speaker(basically the same idea as Silv3r said), so it fits flush or recessed into the spacer, this way people will also rather kick the spacer than the speaker.

I dont know exactly what the Ford tracer looks like inside, but i would suggest rather mounting the speakers in the side panel in the "foot compartment" between the front of the door and the engine compartment. (if space allows)

Not too sure where you mean Wolf, attatched some pics of the front speakers.

From what i can see on the pic's there's not enough space anyhow. (In the red square)

Never thought about putting them there, but ya definitely not enough space.
