January 18, 2006 - Paul Thomas Anderson has spent several years working on a screenplay loosely based on the 1927 novel Oil! by Upton Sinclair, says The Hollywood Reporter. Anderson is now in advanced talks to produce and direct the period film, which is to be titled There Will Be Blood. Daniel Day-Lewis (Gangs of New York, My Left Foot) is lined up to star in the picture.
"It's an ambitious film and a compelling, relevant story about family, greed, religion and oil," said Paramount executive John Lesher. "Paul is an incredible talent, exactly the kind of filmmaker the new division wants to be in business with."
Paramount Pictures and Miramax Films are expected to jointly finance the film. Paramount will distribute it domestically, while Miramax takes care of overseas business. Anderson's last film project was Punch-Drunk Love, starring Adam Sandler.
Production on There Will Be Blood is expected to get underway this May. Filming will be done on location in New Mexico and Texas.

I loved every single Paul Thomas Anderson movie that I've seen (which like most will be Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love) and Daniel Day-Lewis was unknown to me (shame on me) untill I saw Gangs Of New York (he carried that movie) so this should be a good combination right?
