January 18, 2006 - Paul Thomas Anderson has spent several years working on a screenplay loosely based on the 1927 novel Oil! by Upton Sinclair, says The Hollywood Reporter. Anderson is now in advanced talks to produce and direct the period film, which is to be titled There Will Be Blood. Daniel Day-Lewis (Gangs of New York, My Left Foot) is lined up to star in the picture.

"It's an ambitious film and a compelling, relevant story about family, greed, religion and oil," said Paramount executive John Lesher. "Paul is an incredible talent, exactly the kind of filmmaker the new division wants to be in business with."

Paramount Pictures and Miramax Films are expected to jointly finance the film. Paramount will distribute it domestically, while Miramax takes care of overseas business. Anderson's last film project was Punch-Drunk Love, starring Adam Sandler.

Production on There Will Be Blood is expected to get underway this May. Filming will be done on location in New Mexico and Texas.

I loved every single Paul Thomas Anderson movie that I've seen (which like most will be Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love) and Daniel Day-Lewis was unknown to me (shame on me) untill I saw Gangs Of New York (he carried that movie) so this should be a good combination right?

The first I time I noticed him was in GONY but when I looked at his profile I also checked In The Name Of The Father (long time ago). Amazingly enough I saw the DVD for Last Of The Mohicans the other day with his name on it (which suprised me aswell). I havent seen that movie though, any good?

A great adventure movie, but it wouldn't be great to see it now. Sort of like Silence of the lambs, changed it genre when it came out, but has been copied so much, it's almost boring watching it now.

Last of the Mohicans was also quite violent, like GoNY, and by the title 'There will be blood'. Seems Mr. Lewis enjoys blood.

But other than knowing 'There will be blood" is based on 'Oil!', what is the movie going to be about?

Trailer

Nothing exciting but Anderson and Lewis should be enough to go watch this!

Omg!

Incredible movie with a super perfomance by Daniel Day-Lewis, great soundtrack (if somewhat odd) and lovely sights to behold.

The ending was also wtf in a good way!

Can't wait to buy this on DVD and watch it again, but go watch it in theatres, it deserved all of our money.

Yeah Lewis is definately one of the best!

The first 15 odd minutes of the film have no dialogue! That took balls, but Lewis carried it really well.

Bump...this has been out on Zone 1 DVD recently, those of you who haven't seen it...go now!

I can't get over the fact that this movie is superb!
