January 27, 2006 - The follow-up to Alien vs. Predator is moving on to the next stage. The IESB.net website has learned from Fox honcho Tom Rothman that the studio now has a script in hand for the next Alien-Predator invasion.

"They just got the script in...we are making that movie, it's gonna be kick-ass," declared Rothman. "We're hoping for [an] August of 2007 release. That's what we hope."

Our readers may recall that last spring, Rothman also confirmed some AVP-2 story details, saying that the sequel would involve Aliens and Predators actually invading human civilization, instead of the bloodshed being confined to a remote Antarctic temple or a distant space freighter.

There's still no word on whether or not Paul W.S. Anderson, writer and director of the first AVP, is involved. He currently has a number of other projects on his plate, including Deathrace 3000, Castlevania, and Resident Evil: Afterlife.

*sigh* This is so not wanted after Paul W.S. Anderson made that first horrible movie. I mean, the two coolest monsters in the movie universe and yet you manage to fuck it up? Let's just hope they get another director and maybe make the sequel a bit better (can't be that difficult right?), add to this an R-Rating (yes that means gore) and you might actually get something.

Also, Tom Rothman is a hack in case you didn't know that!
Heir_of_Isildur
Well I suppose it can only be better than the first! If they manage to make it worse... it'll go down in history!
rurounikenshin
Can't they just leave this alone?

I watched the first one again the otherday and i got pissed off!

2 out of the 3 predators get taken out by drones in the forst say 10 - 15 minutes?!

I would've expected more from the Predator species. Would've been interesting to see atleast 2 preds tag team the queen at the end...

It was bound to happen - sadly, a LOT of people actually PAID to watch AvP, which led to some box office dough in the pockets of the studio execs, who decided they would exploit the public even further and make a sequel. sad.gif

I wish that i had mafia connections and actually could "coax" people into not going to see the next one. evil.gif

*bad italian accent* I got dis problem... and I need you to take care of it... capish?"

June 6, 2006 - IGN FilmForce was informed by a tipster that 20th Century Fox may have found who they want to direct Alien vs. Predator 2. In this case, two directors.

Our scooper points out that the Wikipedia entry for special effects artists-turned-directors Greg and Colin Strause, a.k.a. the Brothers Strause, claims that the siblings "have recently been mentioned as the possible feature film directors for Alien vs. Predator 2. The sequel to 2004's Alien vs. Predator is set to be released in August 2007."

IGN's tipster advised us that the Brothers Strause "are set to direct AvP2," adding, "They've met with the producers and set to sign on this week."

As of June 1st, the Brothers Strause's official site coyly announced that "something big is brewing."

IGN attempted to confirm or deny this rumor with the brothers' reps at WMA and Management 360, as well as with the filmmakers themselves. None of these parties responded to our inquiry by publishing time.

In addition to their award-winning work as music video and commercial directors, the Brothers Strause also run Hydraulx, which has provided special effects work for such Fox films as X-Men: The Last Stand, Fantastic Four and The Day After Tomorrow.

So it is true I guess sad.gif

I don't know if these guys ever directed before in their lifes but yeah, at least they got a special effects background.

Any of you guys got ideas for the storyline? Should they go on with AvP 2 or just forget about that distaster? Should they do the PredAlien (the thingie at the end of AvP that bursted out of the predators chest)?

Official title : Aliens Vs. Predator : Survival Of The Fittest (lame,I know).

Pete over at AlienExperience has passed along some news about the ALIEN VS. PREDATOR sequel that should afford fans holding their breath for some good news to come out of the franchise a chance to exhale a little. ALIEN VS. PREDATOR: SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST (as it is now officially being called) will not be based on Shane Salerno's unpopular script taking place in Texas. Two words: Wyoming, baby. Naw, that's not true. The details of the shooting script are unknown at this point but it will still be a script from Salerno, just a different one. And be sure to check out AlienExperience.com for always interesting, up-to-the-minute updates on all things Alien, not only in terms of the film but if you're a fan of the franchise as a whole, as well. AVP2, from directors Colin and Greg Strause and newly aquired cinematographer Daniel Pearl (who, interestingly enough, was DP on both the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and its remake - huh, I did not know that) is set for an August 10th, 2007 release.

Lets all still keep hoping for a decent AvP movie after that horrible first one sad.gif

Despite the begging and pleading of fanboys worldwide, Fox is moving ahead with their planned ALIEN VS. PREDATOR sequel, subtitled SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST. As you may have heard, the film takes place here on Earth with the Alien and Predator doing battle in a midwestern town. Fox has announced casting on the film, which begins production just a week from now in Vancouver. Starring in the film will be Reiko Aylesworth (who you might remember as Michelle Dessler from "24") and Steven Pasquale ("Rescue Me"). Pasquale will star as "Dallas," a recently release prisoner with Aylesworth playing "Kelly," a pilot and a soldier Shane Salerno, who will forever live in infamy for writing ARMAGEDDON, wrote the script for AVP2 with brotherly team Greg and Colin Strause making their feature directing debut. Fox currently has AVP2 scheduled for a December 2007 release (Merry Christmas!).

And the movie will be R-Rated (unlike AvP) and supposedly very hardcore (According to Tom Rothman, Fox' tool)
Surge
Well, perhaps there is hope if ti ha an R-rating, but I am still not gonna hold my breath.

Alien vs. Predator 2 star Steven Pasquale talked to MTV and said that you can expect a different movie this time around:

"[We're] trying to get back to the basics [with] the suspense and the gore," actor Steven Pasquale told MTV News, revealing that "AVP2" will be considerably scarier than its predecessor. "I think it's going to be really fun. [Directors] Colin and Greg Strause really know what they're doing in terms of a sort of true-blue monster movie."

Scarier? I am sure that seeing Jacob Zuma's face will still be more frightening that than this travesty.

USA Today has published this new shot along with more photos of the Predalien, an alien and predator hybrid, from Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem, hitting theaters on Christmas Day. The article includes some great quotes from directors Greg and Colin Strause about returning the franchise to its former self:

So the brothers plan to bring the new film back to its roots — namely, Ridley Scott's 1979 classic, Alien.

"That movie was dark. That movie used a lot of rain," Colin says. "And that movie was scary. We want it more like the classic early Alien and Predator movies we grew up on."

"There's a real history to these characters," says Colin, 31. "People grew up with these characters when it was a serious franchise. We want to make it just as serious and dark as the originals."

That means cutting back on computer-generated effects. In the first two Alien films, Scott and Cameron had six alien outfits. For this AVP, the brothers have just 12.

"You're not going to see 50 digital creatures running around," Greg says. "We want to bring the franchise back to basics.

"That's what made them so frightening in the first place."

What the fuck?

Having seen this I suddenly had a newfound respect for AvP (the original as they tend to say).

To sum up what is good with AvP : Requim is like trying to find any pro sides to rubbing your eyes with Alien blood or to one day wonder what good it would do to indulge into your Man / Predator 69 fantasy.

So yeah, we've got a bunch of really bad actors trying to act surprised, scared and firing off the bad dialogue like Prince once did in Purple Rain (at least he brought some kitsch and good music to the table).

The effects were inbetween, some obviously bad CGI (did I really see that alien that comes out of their mouths in a CGI blend?) and lots of lame-o gore and a plot so blunt you couldn't cut through butter with it.

I will admit, the one part of the ending was gutsy (if only the emotional connection was there to justify and have such a move pay off) but the other part was so goddamn cliche and felt like it was tacked on (looked like one of those straight to tv movies) afterwards.

No one can hear you scream in space! On earth it won't matter.

Thanks for buttfucking the Alien and Predator series ONCE again.

Funny note, the movie ends and low and behold in big letters :

DIRECTED BY THE STRAUSS BROTHERS!

They should be ashamed of themselves!
Paul
oh come on, it wasnt that bad, I actually enjoyed it, it was mindless mayhem, what more did you possibly, honestly want?

The part where the predator accidently pegs that chick to the wall with his throwing disk job was fan fucking tastic.

there were some seriously cool things I loved about it, like the fact that he couldnt care a fuck about the humans, but would simply dispose of them if they got in his way, that motherfucker was way fucking cool. and I love how he came with no backup whatsoever, alone just to hunt
rurounikenshin
I was pretty dissapointed.

But as Paul says, that Hunter Predator was a bad ass mofo!

I agree, Predator blade > chick was pretty cool.

It just doesn't have any point actually. Even when he fights his way out of 1001 Aliens, it just never becomes something dramatic or tense. Just lame-o Pred hanging around. switching between his visions (seriously, the night vision was craptastic), occasional cloak, etc etc.

They got the whole humans are also going down angle right but like I said, with such a balsy ending they should've at least tried to connect the audience with the characters (2D doesn't even begin to describe how flat these characters are).

But okay, I can live with the sacrificing of motivation (stay alive!) for the sake of fan pleasing. I am sure their intentions were good, but Aliens do not really work in an all out action packed enviroment. Honestly, what can they do to someone like a Predator? Against humans the stakes were high (Aliens FTW!) but yeah...

The only thing the brothers got right is going with an R-Rating.
rurounikenshin
What I would like to see in the Predator characters is more of their hunting rituals and tactics.

Not just them cycling vision modes and using their Spear Gun/Plasma-Caster.

I want to see them set traps, I want to see them preparing for the hunt.

I don't enjoy watching a species like the Predators getting mobbed by millions of aliens, that just annoys me. Why not have a one on one battle with a Predator and a Preatorian? Or a Predator and warrior alien?

Obviously with it's superior technology and inteligence the Predator has a much higher chance of winning, but wouldn't it be interesting if there was only 2 of them harassing and sparing with each other as opposed to a double-plasma caster wielding alien blowing everything up all the time?

I dunno.

I think the guys write scripts that are more suitable for high-school productions.
Heir_of_Isildur
I knew it was going to be bad... so I watched it drunk... it was good!
