I feel that the chill vault has picked up in the past week

even the gaming vault is picking up

I've also noticed a rise in posts here lately. I think our concern should lie in getting the Mod, Net and Gfx vaults up to speed.

The odd thing though is that the shift from posts has moved from during the day instead of the usual night posters..

I selected "You've decided to leave the forums" im not referring me (im very active ) but thats what I think is the main reason.

no I was merely talking about the why would there be a lack of users posting... not about the number of posts.

ATM all I see are the same people who's posting franticly... there's not much movement in the net vault (it's starting again), the tech vault and the mod vault...

Simple solution is always best:

One thing that I have been wondering though is the following :

Back in the days it used to be the night users that would rule over the day users but now it is the other way, which users are there at night? Come out everyone, no one is gonna bite you! Also people, if topics are boring why not start your own ones? These place can gain from everyones input!

I voted a null vote, because I am as active in the Chill Vault as I was in the Off-Topic section of the previous forums.

Why don't those who say the topics are boring post something interesting?

maybe the post count is down because all the forums that used to be part of one are now separated into completely separate entities?

yeah millennia but if you look across the board, Net Vault is down the only person that post the is virtually me Tech vault was dead but at least we have some guys up and posting there as well, Mod vault is deserted which I assume we have no modders in the forums

So I wanted to find out why is it that out of 4,914 member only a handful is posting. Surely there is a few questions here and there.

The fact that the V9 split is not a poll option shows an extraordinary amount of denial. I mean really dude. Whenever something goes wrong with any system (in my experence, anyway), the first thing you have to ask is: "What changed?". And many times, somebody will gladly say "nothing!". And I say: "LIES!", and after a couple of minutes of this, they say, "oh, I remember, we made a small change to..." Bingo! there's your problem right there.

So. I ask you, what big change has occurred recently that could be correlated to the drop in posts? And why is it not a poll option?

the v9 seperation is what caused many to leave as they were not happy with the forums, so that would be the same option as 'leaving the forums'.

i dont think it's a case of not having people online, look at the top bar, there's alwasy 100+ people doing something on the vaults, it's just a case of getting contribution etc. most people prefer to stay as a guest and just read what goes on than register and add to it.

Just one Question is the post count calculated per "sub" forum or total forum?

Cause i find that tech & the others are less active than they where when the forum was still one, i can't think that i ever visited GFX, NET or OS sub forums, where in the old day's i would read stuff from there & post on it, now it's just to much work over a 56k line to check 9 different sub-forums! I check chill everyday and tech & code every now & then... mostly only when i asked a Question...

It's been a hectic few weeks for me currently.
Got a new client, and my manager gave it to me - warning the client that i'm also new in teh company, and would grow with them...
Some very interesting problems i had ty sort out, that i didn't even know could exsist.
Either way - i'm owned @work.

Same here, checking 9 differnt forums on a 56k dailup & having to Re Loging everyday on 7 out of the 9, is a Hassel that i don't have time/money for...

On the old setup i would sometimes post in a hardware topic, or coding topic, but lately i don't cause i don't really visit those forums anymore...

Just the way the cookie will crumble till i can afford ADSL or one of the wireless options!!!

Well i'll definitely cite the split as the number 1 reason why my postcount has gone comatose...though work problems are a close second

Usually i'd come in,log on and post replies at each of the topics I have something to say...now it's a hassle with 3000 different forums which each has 1 or 2 topics I have expertise in

I think that's what distanced many of the users. I know it's a thing about specialization,but most of us arent bandwidth blessed and able to visit each site to look for those topics to increase my POOR postcount on each section

perhaps inactive accounts should be deleted after 6 months...would save on server space (bleh yeah 2kb). Then we'd see how many people still visit us.

I'm only on this site to update my blog and scare the females in the whole "dating section" and "Vault9 Femmes" Club.

I cant remember why, and I also never posted. Just after I joined I probably decided that there are better things to do with my time. During a slow week at work I stumbled acros the forums again, and the 100% Boer shirt topic just begged a reply.

I tried to register (not remembering that I have ever been to V9), but some bastard stole my nic!

Just before I created some variant, I tried my old passwords to see if any worked...... and here I am, wasting company time.

I wasnt around before, but I would think that the split has made it easier for people to focus on what they know. As psywolf said he would answer topics in the areas he knows, surely its easier now than before when there where 100's of forums within a forum?

Well back in the day when I stumbled upon the joy that was Planetmars, I felt like part of a community. I knew some people on the forums, and felt comfortable. I spent hours on IRC, which I still cant do with the new setup.

What I mean is, in the past I could post about any topic in one place, and everyone would see it and reply.

Now I must first figure out which vault this is suited for, and then if I post it anywhere other than chill vault it takes days or weeks before I get any reply.

Allthough I do feel that the split is great for the scalability of this whole system, global9 would have to run extremely smooth for it all to work in my book. For me the split has broken that feeling of belonging to a community of ppl with similar interests than mine, and created a "coders only" "gamers only" feel, which I think is bad.

So now everybody spends most of their available time in chill vault, leading to less and less coding, gaming etc topics being dicussed.

Well thats my R3.50's worth.

The reason why I am on the lowdown right now when it comes to posting is cos I simple do not have time to sit behind the pc the whole time. Also I'd rather do something else with the free time I have instead of posting threads which get no replies at all...
