toasted
I recently went to watch Goal! here in the UK, and I loved it. It is admittedly rather predictable, but I still enjoyed every minute of it. I recommend you go see it when it comes out in S.A.

The Story

"I've spent muddy days watching young lads beat the hell out of each other. But once in a while, there's one that comes along and lifts your heart"

When Santiago Munez crossed the Mexican border at the age of 10, he had two things in his possession: his soccer ball and a tattered picture of the World Cup. Working menial jobs while growing up in Los Angeles, Santiago's (Kuno Becker) passion was playing soccer. Convincing his father that he could be an international football star was another story: "There are two types in this world," declares the elder Munez, "People in big houses, and people like us who cut their lawns and wash their cars."

But when Brit Glen Foy (Stephen Dillane), an amiable football player and sometime scout spots Santiago at a local match, he recognises a deft, fast and brave footballer the kind of talent that the English Premier League Club, Newcastle United, is hungry for.

Now thrust into a foreign land where football is a religion and Newcastle's St. James' Park its cathedral, this young Latin American must prove that he's got the grit and the game to win a contract with one of the most beloved football clubs in the world. Muddy fields, cold winds and crunching blows from teammates not to mention woes, injuries, and the temptations of life as an international footballer are just a few of the obstacles Santiago must overcome to reach his ultimate "Goal".

Directed by Danny Cannon (CSI) and set amid the heart-pounding atmosphere of international football, "Goal!" stars up and coming Latino actor Kuno Becker. Some of the hottest representatives from the world of football also appear in the movie, including David Beckham, Zinédine Zidane, Raul, and Newcastle captain Alan Shearer.

There are two planned Goal! sequels, the first tranferring to one of Europe's footballing powers before ultimate glory in the 2006 World Cup in the final film.

I'm sorry toasted, but this movie was appalling. It follows the typical 'underdog beats the odds and wins the day' plotline, and is completely predictable from start to finish.

There are a couple of minute-long cameos by Becks and Shearer, but other than that it's a stale cast that produces bland, textbook acting. Myself and my group of mates walked out (well, actually drove out since we were at the drive-in) feeling really unsatisfied sad.gif

Hopefully they learn from their mistakes and make the sequels a bit more interesting.

OH COME ON.

For some reason all the men that have seen it, told me how crap it is. All the girls LOVED IT.

Look, yes it's predictable, but it's got such emotion in it, and feels like it was real and it was just wow for me.

Hay maybe it's cos I'm biased cos he's kewt. ermm.gif

They're all jealous because they want to be football stars but didn't make it.

For a movie that goes against this trend watch 'Coach Carter' - and it's a true story!

Yeah, I'll not be paying to watch 'Goal', maybe on TV some day...

i saw coach carter, that's a good movie - but i am also a fan of jackson so i think 99% of his shit is good ':D

I haven't seen Goal yet but it being compared to 'Coach Carter' and the feeling that the second choice is better is probably because it was acted better?
