Just to keep people in the loop, one of our focusses in the past 3 months has been to make sure that we are getting our pages indexed by the search engines nicely.

We have been largely successful in this regard and we have been focussing primarily on the google search engine.

We are proud to say that as of this morning there are 193 000 pages indexed by google and in the next week or two we will have more than 200 000 pages from the entire vault9 network indexed by google.

What this means is that google has crawled the sites and has collected information from 193 000 pages from vault9 alone and have them available on the google website to allow people to search information from those pages.

What is this significance?

Well, we can all recall the number of guests we had coming to the site when we were still planetmars and net-forums.

These guests, many of them came from google, how will it affect us now?

we have NO idea as its astronomical, we had HUGE traffic from google previously and as planetmars we only had 2300 pages indexed by google and as net-forums, only 46 000.

We have since gotten four times that combined amount not to mention that the net-forums and planetmars pages are still indexed by google, meaning that we'll still get visitors looking for those sites.

Yes its a HUGE accomplishment.

How does it measure up against competitive sites?

well head on over to google and type in

site:vault9.net

it will return the number of pages for vault9 in the top right hand corner

then try it with other sites to see how we measure up :-)

All new domains get placed in a holding until google understands that the site is permanent, then it places its searches in the correct positions of relevancy, this can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months with new domains meaning that even though we are still getting guests to our site, the majority of the traffic is yet to come!

Its slowly happening as we can see an increase in the number of guests.

In order to celebrate this milestone and this achievment we were thinking of a get together, a lunch of sorts although we want ideas.

Unfortunately to our overseas and far away members it going to take place somewhere in the Johannesburg area. Overseas people can have their own gatheringss if they wish and we'll attend by proxy nominating HowlinMadMurdoc for the uk proxy.

Currently the thought of a bring and braai is most entertaining as some of our younger members will also be most certainly welcome at a bring and braai which would not be the case if we choose to go to a pub.

Also I would like to add that I can see what you mean about getting more traffic. I notice that there is a steady stream of guests viewing the forums, a fair amount more than there used to be.
