I think I've said enough about the wants of the female species to write a book and movie about the subject.

Not every guy is touchy-feely and can bawl his eyes out after a session of watching some fairly obese woman relate her torment of picking up far too much weight from emotionally eating her way through five hundred happy meals at her local McD's in the space of three weeks. Sometimes we feel nothing.

I think many a guy comes to a point in a relationship where the strain of pretending to be deep and introspective in certain situations lest you end up having a huge argument starts to show, because despite demanding honesty, sometimes it's just better to tell a lie because the truth will most certainly not be understood or received as well.

The KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) rule has many applications and the simplest way for a woman to "understand" her partner is to keep it in mind when faced with seemingly inexplicable reactions to something she believes is supposed to bring out some huge, live-altering emotional reaction.

Men are often said to be the less complex part of a relationship, which is true for most instances but less true when examined from the viewpoint that men are just as complex if not more so but only appear to be less complex because we're made of sturdier stuff and as per societal indoctrination we're supposed to be the pillar of strength in a relationship. Women are supposed to cry on our shoulders, in other words.

My point is that, as much as you as a woman would want your partner to be your best friend, there's a limit to that which the two of you can share without one or the other having to start to pretend to care about something or invent reactions/feelings if only to compromise or keep the status quo in a relationship.

Something someone said that has sticked with me is this: "women want men to change and men want women to stay the same". You can rewrite that as men disliking change and women welcoming it as well. This I believe is the crux between almost all misunderstandings, lack of understanding and confusion between men and women and their relationships.
