Hi All. I would like to find out where the best place to go is to get a car properly spraypainted in a new colour. I am talking about something like shiny metallic black, white or metallic charcoal/grey; and NOT one of those weird and strange multicolor paintjobs like you see on custom cars on Discovery tongue.gif . Looking in JHB (or at least Gauteng)

My questions are:
1. any ideas how much it would cost to have a car completey spraypainted the new colour?
2. any suggestions as to whom to approach? Would it be a good panelbeater or are there specialized body works / spraypainting workshops? Would guys who do bodykit be the ones to approach, eg. Big Boss Auto?
3. are there any concerns/problems which may arise? I am mainly concerned about having the car totally disassembled and then a shoddy job done with re-assembly.

Now in terms of wheels: I have a set of 17" mags which have been damaged (chips, nicks, scratches, but no dents). Once again in the JHB region who would be the best guys to go to for:
1. a mag repair/refurbishment to get them like new?
2. a mag repair as well as getting them painted?

Thanks and Cheers,
X

I would also think that the cost of spraypainting your car a new colour would depend on what size vehicle you've got...

You can try Big Boss Auto in JHB -011 9070678

Dont know what the prices are like but i know its a mission cuz you also have to change the licencing papers.

Good luck!!!!

If you do it properly, as in, everything gets stipped out and off the car until it's a shell - it gets sprayed and then re-assembled... easily R25000+ and you'll be with out a car for a minimum of 1 month.

Even once you get it back and have all the problems sorted (and there will always be problems - no matter where you take it) you will then have to re-register the car with the police to show that you've changed the color and you can kiss any re-sale value goodbye. Any one with a sharp eye and who pays attention to detail will see that the car has been stripped and sprayed - not to mention that the car might have to be registered as a code 3 (rebuilt).

Mags shouldn't be too hard to find - I'll look into it for you.

All in all though, unless you have a spare car to play with and plenty of time and money - I wouldn't really recommend changing the colour.

There's a place in Alrode that fixes mags. Hi-Tech Mag wheel repairs or something like that.

Depends where you take it, and how serious you would be about doing it.

It can only become code 3 if it has been scrapped before, or has been modified in such a way that it no longer has ANY of the manufacturer's original specs.
