Ahh Saturday saw us beat Australia in the Tri Nations to remain top of the table!
How was that game?! I saw a 120kg OS get TAKEN off his feet LOL. Percy MISSED 2penalties and 1 conversion crazy.gif whilst Habana proves to be a FREEKIN rocket with the ball..

It was a good game. I expected the scores to be close. But seriously, wats up with SA's ball possesion? ermm.gif
DJ DON
I THINK THEY SHOULD CLONE HABANA! HE'S A MACHINE
Lion-O
Great game! Now we're off to NZ...
cyfermaster
if we play like that against NZ, we will get killed. We were lucky. As many people have said, we need to start scoring off attacking moves, not rely on the other team to make a mistake and hope that we can get the ball to habanna. What if he gets injured? Saying that, the team showed great character and team spirit. WELL DONE to them for the win, and may the carry on improving. Hopefully they won't miss so many tackles against NZ.
Fishfly
at least habana can tackle better than paulsa

Wasnt a great game of rugby, but we won and hopefully they'll keep improving just enough to beat the AB's this weekend. I've got a big bet with Ladbrokes on it!!

If anyones interested, I write a regular column on www.sarugby.com

Should have another interesting article out later this week.

my sarugby.com columns

Mine usually go up on Wednesday or Thursday when things quieten down a little, so look back for my next one then. They've got it, but they just try and spread the stuff out over the week a little to give some news a chance to date.

QUOTE(News24.com - 24/08/2005 09:26)

"House of Pain" haunts the Boks

Dunedin, New Zealand - More than just the All Blacks, it's the Carisbrook hoodoo that looms large between the Springboks and their mission to complete historic back-to-back Tri-Nations rugby series victories here on Saturday.

Carisbrook is know as the "House of Pain" with just cause - the visiting side rarely wins - and in South Africa's case they have never won here in the 84 years that teams from the republic have been coming to New Zealand.

Seven years:

It's also seven years since they last won a Test anywhere in New Zealand.

"We're not coming here with any false illusions," Springbok coach Jake White said on Wednesday as he shored up the defensive qualities of his side with one enforced change for Saturday's Test against the All Blacks.

"We know we've never won in New Zealand in Dunedin ever since 1921. I think the last time we won here was in 1998 in Wellington," he said.

With Breyton Paulse suspended for three weeks, inside centre Jean de Villiers has been moved to his former position on the wing allowing the return of tough tackling DeWet Barry in midfield.

It is the only change from the starting line-up which has won all three of South Africa's Tri-Nations matches so far this season and put them one win away from consecutive Tri-Nations titles for the first time.

Defence has been the Springboks strong point this year and despite having their frontline broken 14 times in the first Test against the All Blacks they conceded only one try in the 22-16 victory.

Horses-for-courses:

The recall of the 27-year-old Barry, who appeared to be out of favour this season, was a horses-for-courses choice for White who said he was not prepared to risk blooding someone younger.

"With 35 Test caps his experience will be needed. It's going to be a bit slower at Carisbrook at 19:30 in the evening, it won't be as open and that obviously suits the style we're going to play."

While this South Africa team knows about rewriting history, their win over Australia last week in Perth was the first time in two years the visiting team has won a Tri-Nations match, White was not prepared to forecast a repeat against the All Blacks.

"It's got nothing to do with what happened last week and the week before. This is the last 80 minutes we have of Tri-Nations rugby (this year) and we've got to make sure we give ourselves a chance." he said.

"The All Blacks are the best side. They've got a great record. They've won the Tri-Nations more than Australia and South Africa and we're looking at it like that."

South African Lineup:

Percy Montgomery, Jean de Villiers, Jacque Fourie, De Wet Barry, Bryan Habana, Andre Pretorius, Enrico Januarie, Joe van Niekerk, Juan Smith, Schalk Burger, Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, CJ van der Linde, John Smit (captain), Os du Randt.

Reserves: Hanyani Shimage, Eddie Andrews, Albert van den Berg, Jacques Cronje, Fourie du Preez, Jaco van der Westhuyzen, Marius Joubert.

OMG this is gunna be a HARD game. Oh well... either way I'm getting drunk tongue.gif

i watched the game, but with aussie commentators.

it is actually sad how as soon as we do something good...
'thats the luck that they have tim, us aussies power power power and then they just get lucky'

style comments.

god forbid we actually just played well. there were a number of times where the aussies were on a try scoring move and they plain and simply messed up. and, it takes a good team to counter effectively when these chances present themselves.

even the news papers here in _scotland_ go on about the luck of the boks.

it makes me sick ':/
Fishfly
well you gotta admit there doc, we were bloody lucky to wing it... if we play like that again we'll just get hammered biggrin.gif
docmoo
i dunno hay, i honestly think that when it came to having to defend, it was done.

there were a few chances were aus were on the line and we managed to turn it over - and score.
dr_z
Lets say we do get hammered. Is that what everyone in SA wants? It seems so, going on some "South African' supporters reaction. Last week's match will not be the same as this week's one. Different settings all together. Everybody, including myself wrote the Boks off in the Newlands test too, and yet they won (was that luck again?). I think for once Jake White has managed to get some cohesion in the side. At one stage I thought John Smit was not the best selection, since he aint the best hooker in SA, but the more The Boks play the more his leadership grows (watch it on tv) and his experience. Someone rightly pointed out that even our reserves have 20 caps or more each.

Even if we lose by 50 points, I am still proud to be a Bok supporter. Go Bokke!
Fishfly
dr_zhiv we not biaching about how shit it is to be a bokke but merely criticising the way they played!

heck they won but was it luck or was it skill? that's what you gotta ask... it would be nice if we can have both that in every match we play that way we could prob do a 95 again at the next world cup w00t.gif
dr_z
To be frank, there is only one team that could hammer us in World Rugby at the moment. And confidence is key. And it was not that lucky IMHO.
Badavis
I think our defence is power, though our ball possesion needs an improvement ermm.gif
I dunno if ur aware of one of Jake White's killer tactics? Watch the scrum on Saturday.. SA turn the scrum which causes the NZ attacking line to flatten out. Victor Matfield also studies opposition lineouts like a bible, thats why we're so good at them. I just hope Pretorius can pull some good kicks for us on Saturday..

Holy cow the game is at 9:30am in the morning! ermm.gif
Fishfly
Eish looks like we lost on SAT, didn't get a chance to watch the match but apprently it was a close game till the end where NZ just powered over us crying.gif
nCryption
percy missed 9 points which cost s the game

come on Percy, you have been a good player, but its time to hang up your boots and concentrate on your family now.

Leave the kicking to other people.

Wheres South Africa's favourite Beer ?

Jannie De Beer ?

... a hell of a lot better than anyone else Jake could pick.
Badavis
Im on 2 minds about Percy. Sometimes he's a machine and other times he just doesnt think. Like 2weeks ago against Australia when he took that penalty. The wind was blowing so hard from the west someone had to hold it up for him. So wat does he do? He kicks it straight and the wind blows it off :\

obviously u have to compensate for wind! but then he did a drop kick from the half-way line and I was very quite tongue.gif

Rock tha vote!
Valheru
If his form continues, they should seriously reconsider. Second point is: who the hell do we play in place of old Percy? Hougaard? He's had all his talent coached out of him by the previous coach. Who else is there?
nCryption
How gay I tried to reply to that thread if percy must go

how can anyone vote no ?

come on, the dude missed 9 points. which cost us the game

he spent his game playing Tennis with the Tom Jones looking motherfucker with the the number 15 All Black Jersey

They were just kicking to each other.

I must say that Habana, Although built funny, is FAST! goddamn!

he looks top heavy, like a gorilla but daaaamn he can motor it.

Valheru
I voted NO, since i think he's the best of what we have left. Pity he is not in form though, cause he usually would clear 100% of his kicks. I think we are a little bit too fast in dissing him. And i know losing against the All Blacks sucks, but at least we beat the Aussies.

Damn that was a close game. I was getting my TDI serviced at Linsey Saker and watching the game silently with all of them whilst wanting to shout for my team the whole time (not wise in a bunch of SA supporters tongue.gif) then when we scored that tri like 6mins 30 secs before the end I jumped up and screamed YEA !!!!!!(not remembering where I was and in what company I was with)........ then looked around to see the horror on everyones face tongue.gif
HowlinMadMurdoc
I dont watch sport but I did a similar thing with the guys in my house. all of them sitting in the lounge with their SA Rugby clothing on. i sat down for a few mins and when NZ scored i cheered and walked off.
Badavis
i wud hav chucked the chips at u biggrin.gif
cyfermaster
Guys... we lost to the best team in the world! There is nothing to complain about. Percy missed some kicks.. so what. If he had made the one penalty the whole game could have been totally different. That whole If he had got those penalties thing is kak. It is over with. too bad. At least we are now seriously competing, where as before we didn't.

LoL @ W( at )RP( at )T}{... hows the car going after that outburst? did you test the brakes before motoring home? hehe Go Sharks!

Well Done All Blacks
DJ DON
I think percy is good player and just remember everyone has their bad days.
Badavis
HOLY SHIT I cant believe we forgot about this thread! Nevermind someone nearly dying in the game against ARGENTINA. Lets talk about last weeks game against WALES, in the lead up to tomorrows game against FRANCE.

I CANT BELIEVE WAT AN ASS PERCY'S TURNING INTO. Did u check that conversion by the lighty from the Cheetahs team? Man I cant wait for the game tomorrow...
cyfermaster
should be an interesting game in the snow. hehe. I reckon France are going to win it. Specially if they play their running rugga.
Heir_of_Isildur
I'm going to see the game bleh.gif

And it's damning cold... sad.gif
nCryption
I have said it before I will say it again

Percy needs to hang his boots up.

I think Bosman should take over kicking duties.

We lost to the french because of stupid mistakes

The frogs deserved the win.

and what the hell were South Africa trying to do by going through the middle the whole time? I mean, we have 2 FAST wingers.
There were dozens of overlaps. Get the ball to Habana and let him slip his way through.
