There is this road close to my house and every Sunday a lot of people get together and race, do 360's ,burnouts and show off their sound.
What do you think good or bad?

its bad people are killed i don't see why there aren't any organised, legal night events so that people dont have to endanger others in order to look hardcore

Yep they have been speaking about closing the road once every 3 months but these guys wanna do it every weekend !

I love this shit
Although there's a definite gap in the south african market for this
if someone with cash could build a legal drag strip somewhere in jhb where you pay say R20 to use the strip to race and you get officials and the like with a roadhouse there your weekends would be fun.

It is a nice atmosphere but then some people just over do it and get wasted and then end up killing someone.

Dont they do that at the Wesbank raceway?
Evernight
Aug 2 2005, 02:03 PM
It'd be risky because even if you built it they'd be under street law as far as I know.
like, even if its in your back yard, i think its still illegal to take a car over 120...
also if ONE guy plugged into a wall you'd be in serious trouble.

It will take more than R20
Tarlton,Wesbank are the only legal ones in JHB.......any other strip would need a MSA licence, safe venue, medical assistance on hand etc,etc (and i guess a roadhouse). No street racer will bother to go that far...
And half those idiots think they're something out of 2Fast 2Furious.

Even if they do make a seperate venue for street racing, they will still do it on the streets for "the rush".
Just look big cities like LA for an example...

I give it stick at a robot from time to time, just for my own fun though and usually it's out of the blue that I would give it a go. I wouldn't personally decide ahhh lets go look for races tonight and drive somewhere to do illegal street racing.
There is a time and place for everything. I sit most of the way home at like 90-->110KM's so naturally when I get onto the back roads i'll give it a little squirt to wake myself up again
cyfermaster
Aug 3 2005, 05:01 AM
I think my car can only go like 110kms... so I give it a squirt everytime I go on the freeway. it is like 5kms from home to work... and 8 robots between the two places... Not like I can fall asleep in that distance....
W@RP@T}{
Aug 3 2005, 05:05 AM
LOL Cyfer if you give it a squirt you might get to 115
Then you'll be wide AWAKE

Hell no......never did the "dice" thing.Yup those things move and the vibe is pretty cool on Voortrekker road on a Sunday, but the street racing has a dark side to it.They can run in a straight line but if one of those clowns gets it sideways he'll take out a few dozen people with him.
I've done 1/4 mile runs at Wesbank Raceway ( 13.748 sec ) and done track days at Zwartkops,I prefer a controlled enviroment where if something goes wrong the help is right there, and if you get it wrong and slide off the worst that can happen is a tyre wall or a sand bed,and not a few shop windows and a dozen pedestrians.

I agree they are dangerous, some of those drivers are young and inexperianced and take big risks/show off and can end up killing people. Thats why I found myself a nice little big steel pole and stood behind it
Apparently about 10 or 20 odd years ago they had a similar thing in church street...a guy in a porche was driving and his tyre blew, and he ended up killing 3 people.
Is your suburu the WRX or WRX STI? Is it standard or have you done anything to it?

thats a great attitude to have - since i have experienced some of those other idiots - the arseholes who got their drivers licence from rent-a-licence or direct from "games" for R600 who wanna race all over the place with daddy's car and end up smashing into other people ........namely me - my car is in the panelbeater now due to shit like that
if you really wanna race - keep it on a track - not on the publiuc road where people need to commute as part of their existence - threatening that existence isnt very nice and accidents are not fun .....people can get killed
tech_phil - i applaud your attitude

Thanks naughty, yup i've seen some ugly stuff.People needlessly get killed just because some wet behind the ears idiot thinks he's in 2 Fast 2 Furious.
I reccomend at least everyone at some point should do an advanced driving course/skidpan,it could honestly save a person's life.

I have a standard WRX,it's been "chipped" and the exhaust's been done (BOSAL 63mm stainless). It does 145kw at the wheels (all 4 wheels) which on paper translates to 210kw more or less.I'm almost at the limit now for the WRX,any further and the gearbox will chew itself.Ideally an STI would put up with as much power as you could throw at it,those things are so strong it's scary But the WRX has it's limits.
One day....

My buddy has informed me the they are going to be having Legal Street Racing in PTA very soon, where you pay R20 to race your car down a blocked off road, I know where, but I'm not 100% sure that it will happen.

I have diced many many times robot to robot. Nothing beats being on the track though. Any idiot can go in a straight line robot to robot.
But beating a 2L in a standard 1600 carb on a track has to say something about the drivers ability doesn't it?
Keep it on the track fella's. It's safer for all involved?

"The commoner races, the gentleman drives" Now would someone please inform the lambo and porsches that drive past my house every sunday at 7:30 to drive? I need my sleep! Although I'll say this...Ferrari drivers let you win. Nice of them. Although I did return the favour by blocking a taxi from swerving onto his lane. As for the racing bit...when all cars are tested for roadworthyness once a year like in the homecountry then I'll allow it. But your car must cost R200000+ (stock)...Sorry Uno and SMART drivers.

illegal street racing? well... i think its ok if its done in a controlled environment like on the tracks....
i race whenever i can, but always make sure that its controlled, that no one is anywhere near the track when the race begins, no one under 18 is invited... no alcohol, no crap like that... yeah we use nos and stuff... and it is dangerous, but we train, practise.... go to advanced courses in driving... and our cars are constantly checked and tuned and rechecked and tested... the works....
its the dopes that think they vin diesel in the fast and the furious that gives such a beautiful sport like racing a bad rep....
