Could one of the powers that be please explain what exactly was the motivation behind splitting up the forum into 9 smaller parts?

What was key in the decision making? Lack of functionality? Wasted time taken to visit different areas? Because really those are the only things I've gathered from the change.

Instead of having all the sections on one site I have to browse through a number of various seperate websites to achieve the same thing. The username/password factor is a big pain as well, you want to represent one global system yet each site's administration is treated as seperate entities. And last but not least, I worry this change is going to kill off the smaller less popular subsections (such as OS) as there's not as much 'by chance' browsing.

PlanetMars..err..Net-forum...I mean vault9 has provided a great wealth of knowledge covering a multitude of aspects. I just wish it hadn't been dissected like a grade 10 biology frog sad.gif

This was explained a few times... I forget exactly... but it boils down to they/users wanted forums with more focus.

well it was something along those lines.

Please read the threads in the board related section.

This has been explained, as Cyfermaster said, many times before.

Okay, ignore my first paragraph then. I still think the rest of my post applies.

I couldn't find anything other than butt-kissing and flaming in any other posts that I've read regarding the change over thus the reason for my post.

bottom line is that we heard the same message over and over again

the boards too cluttered
people are getting lost on the forums

etc etc

the reason why we split them was so that there would be dedicated sites for each section or point of interest

the idea is not to let subsections like OS die out, in fact the administration are going to be sitting down soon to discuss many of the suggestions and gripes over the last couple of weeks as well as ideas on pumping alot of life into the "smaller" subsections

Once we are done discussing stuff, we'll be returning with a few more polls and we'll be asking for ideas from the other staff as well as from the general users.

I personally want sections like mod, tech, os, gfx, net to be buzzing with excitement and thats my own personal goal for the year.

Each vault is going to become a market leader in its own field.

The vision we have for vault 9 is not to be 1 website
but a group of different websites dedicated to the field that they represent.

We already have some massive development happening on ideas that we have had to place on the backburner for a while which is going to drive traffic and interest to each of the smaller subsections to make them some of teh most noted on the internet.

stay tuned.

and thanks for the interest.

That would be nice. biggrin.gif
To be honest at the moment some of the "smaller" subsections seems to be dying out.

Your reply actually makes no sense. There is no longer a Tech Vault. Nukes, to fill you in. We had 9 vaults, which we have integrated into one site. smile.gif
RenegadeNukes
I thought you meant the Tech section of the actual forum

I thaught each of the individual sub forums was its own vault

Oh well

Don't worry Nukes...When the site was a collection of 9 vaults it sucked the big one. Members left V9site by the hundreds and some have never returned!!

I'm glad its all together now!!

In fact, I am closing this thread. smile.gif
