For the past month or so, I've been following a calorie-controlled diet. Basically, since I have an office-job, and am not very active, I should have about 1100 calories a day.
At the same time, I've been jogging, and also doing Yogalates (a mix of yoga and pilates).
Pros: I'm losing two kg's a week. (ie. I've lost 4 already)
Cons: It's a lot of work. I've kept a file with pages and pages of calorie information - what has what calories - and exercise diary, but honestly, unless you are really dedicated, it's impossible. I'm already struggling to keep the file going, because I just don't have the time to go through that every day.
It's also a good thing to have motivation when you're on this diet. I would run with DocterMoo, and after him shouting at me that I will run up that hill or we're not going home, damnit I RAN up that hill.
Another plus about the whole yogalates thing is that it incorporates meditation as well. So, I feel a lot calmer and chilled about everything.

Spot the irony there?
Well done on the 4kg loss. Good luck with the dedication. There are some good diets out there, but they all take a lot of effort. It is not as easy as people think, and I have respect for anyone that can stick to a diet such as this one.

I lost 5kg in 2 weeks via weight training 10minutes each day and very little food during the day...or as I call it:" A coke n a smoke " Works...but stop when you stop waking up in the morning.

I am also a skinny bastard. My muslces are laughable, and I hope to start wieht training like you mentioned BlackRazor, minus the "coke n a smoke" part.
I am a chocaholic, I must eat at least 2 chocolates (bars, like bar-one size) each day, as well as 3 meals + sneaky biscuits with coffee etc.. and I have been 70kg's for about a year. Im 6'2" by the way.
Diets are a waste of time, because I would be dead before I reached my target weight

I would recommend a lot of protein during the day. About 250 grams. Drink most of it before you go to bed (protein shake). What I do is go to gym in the morning just before school round about 5 - 6 I promise you. You will gain muscle mass before u know it. I am 80 kg and 17 years old

Simple modified version of the Atkins diet:
Cut out the bulk of your carbohydrates. Eat a lot of protein-rich foods. Eat a lot of vegetables. Limit your intake of fruits. Don't consume a lot of fat (as per Atkins').
It's really that simple. I've lost about 7kg and never been healthier.

I used to be 4% body fat and quite fit, trying to drop mmy mass now and my fat and put on some muscles again, shit it's hard to loose weight never thought I would struggle but sitting at 95KG's 6'2 and want to loose about 10KG's.
We will see how it goes as I only started a little weight training last night.
Work really screws mme up, up at 7 and get home at 8 at night after 225 hours/months working there is just no energy or motivation to train as well. Well I started must just keep at it. At least I have a body that can turn fat into muscle really easilly.
Will let you guys know my progress.
Feel sooo puny now, all my muscles are gone When I was in STD 6 I gymed 3 hours everyday and rode to school, rode back, rode to gymm, rode back. Was 6'1 and 85KG's

I wish I could be eternally skinny. But knowing me, if I was in your position, I'd complain either way, so I suppose there's nothing left but to accept it.
My mom struggled most of her life (from birth till her 30's when she had her kiddies) with her weight in that she was STICK thin, absolutely tiny, and no matter what she did, she couldn't put on weight. Although she gradually has put weight on (I suppose from the hormones etc.), you can still see how tiny her bones are. And I'm so jealous.

Dude, of course there is, I know a couple of guys that do weight training, supplement shakes, eating absolute junk, and no matter what, they can't put on weight.
Metabolism isn't an excuse.

Jul 20 2005, 09:09 AM
I don't believe that. I've seen a lot of people who complain that they are doing the above. Yet somehow, they manage to take every gym session as it comes. I have never seen them look ill after weight training and they assure that they don't see spots after the big compound exercises. You want growth? You give it everything you have.
Have you seen them eat, are they eating the right amount of everything? Are they sleeping a minimum of 8 hours every night? Have you seen them train? I bet they do at least an hour of cardio every week. What 'supplement shakes' are they taking? There are so many things that novices screw up with their plans, they then get upset (hey, I did at one stage too) and stop doing something that was working.
Conversely, I know a few guys who used to be incredibly skinny and weak but are now massive because of how they train.
Besides, it takes a very long time before weight training becomes effective. A few months at the very least before you start gaining hypertrophy and your strength gains stop coming from your CNS changing.

If he is 24+ then he should start taking steroids. If you feel repulsed or disgusted at what I say then don't bother replying to the steroid part.
If your brother is still willing to train to build muscle and he is willing to give it everything he has all over again, then tell him that he must adhere to the following:
1. He must eat as if he is 110kg man. As in, 6 meals a day, 30g of protein per meal, 300g of carbs a day. He must also take a multivitamin. 2. Sleep a minimum of 8 hours a night. This doesn't include napping. No parties either, they aren't conducive to big muscles. Screw with your sleep cycles and your muscles stay small 3. Begin taking creatine and glutamine. If these things frighten him, then he should give up. 4. Train 5 reps by 5 sets and experiment from there. Tell him that if he feels strong enough to get in the car to drive home after gym he isn't training hard enough.
He must also never give up. Every person on the planet has different genetics, some people take years to respond to weight training. Even if he doesn't grow bigger he will grow a hell of a lot stronger. If he doesn't grow stronger he isn't human.

Steroids are a very touchy subject. Most people hear the word and curl up into a little ball and start shouting at whoever mentioned the word. Similar story with creatine. However, these are the very same people who know nothing about the substances.
QUOTE

This is because creatine will cause your muscles to retain a hell of a lot of water, this retained water is drawn away from vital organs such as kidneys. If you drink enough water, everything will be fine. If you aren't willing to take a creatine supplement then you better hit the meat hard. Which you should do anyway : /

LOL that would be detrimental as Alcohol is a diaretic any one for kidney failure? And before you ask yes I have taken it, there isn't much I haven't tried at one stage or another. Simon - I doubt he'd work that hard for something - I wouldn't even do that, but I suppose you're right in that, if you REALLY work your beeehind off, then you'll get results.
There's a guy I'm working with, he's thin, but he wants to be HUGE, like a bodybuilder. Do you think that doing one hour of exercise in the morning, and two in the evening and drinking supplement shakes, and keeping off alcohol during the week will get him the results? He has a home gym, but somehow I feel like it must be difficult to keep that schedule three hours a day? Is it even enough to get fast results?
How big are you Simon? Are you like a bodybuilder size, cos then I'm scared.

I was also worried about being too skinny, but I solved that by taking up cycling. I also tried the whole weight training thing but I simply didn't enjoy it, but with the bike I don't need any motivation at all I simply love it - can't really explain why. I think it's important to find a physical activity that you'll enjoy-if losing weight is your goal.

Wrong I was the one that bought it up. Was 85KG's in std 6 with more than 4 hours every single day under my belt of excercise.
Have done competitive rock climbing, squash, softball, baseball with colours.
then I went down to 73KG's and 4% body fat and was 3X Cross Country MTB Champ.
I have been there, I have taken stuff from creatine to noranderean (sp) nor-19 as it's called. taken shakes, O2, EPO and suppliments and was at one stage sponsored by USN.

Here's a simple idea if you're cash-strapped. Fit a chin-up bar in a doorway in your house. Every time you walk through that doorway, do 10 chin-ups. It's not that hard and you'll be amazed at the upper body strength (pecs, shoulders & lats) that you can develop in a relatively short period of time. Simple, cheap and effective. I did this for a while and, without too much effort from my side, soon developed a nice hourglass shape.
Try it.
And don't slouch. Watch your posture. I can't emphasise how important this is to developing strong core muscles (lower back, abs, etc.)

Callouses on my hands are nothing new to me, I ride bycicles a lot, and play the guitar, so my hands are covered in them.
Pity I cant do that, seeing as though all my doorways are so low that my head almost touches the top of them now, forget if if add a pullup bar, thats just concusion waiting to happen.
