for some time i have been listening to the mars volta's new album, 'frances the mute', and i have to say its a masterpiece.
so now i do this Artist/Album Recommendation

QUOTE(allmusic.com)
Picking up the pieces from At the Drive-In, Cedric Bixler and Omar Rodriguez formed the Mars Volta and wasted little time in branching out into elements of hardcore, psychedelic rock, and free jazz that expanded on the boundaries of their previous work

i could never say i was a fan of hardcore rock nor free jazz, but the fusion the mars volta has created is just awesome. the music progresses cleverly from slow intros to eccentric electric guitar solos and insane climaxes

these guys also toured with the red hot chili peppers - john frusciante even plays for them.

it's just awesome mood music, all the different influences and styles make a unique and enjoyable listen over and over

on frances the mute, give these a listen:

L' Via l'Viaquez
Cassandra Gemini
Tarantism
Cygnus Vismund
The Widow

any of you guys listened to them ? what do you think ?
if you haven't listened to them, give them a chance - more often than not people land up loving them.

have you ever had that feeling where you wonder, "why didn't i discover this sooner?"
i got my ears on their previous release, "deloused in the comatorium" and i feel that this is much better than the critically acclaimed frances the mute, no question.
deloused in the comatorium is much more immediate and more thrilling than frances
so now i recommend this album, all of it
review
give it a shot

I got quite a bunch of there songs recently after hearing all the raving about them on IRC and while several listenings proved that they have a new and fresh sound I cannot remember one song in my head or even remember titles or lyrics. To me it seemed rather busy the whole time (some songs more then the others) and distracting, pretty cool though. Maybe I will appreciate more if I listen to it over time more and more but my musical mind isn't set for it at the moment.
