Hey there

One of my associates needs someone with decent MySQL knowledge to help with a problem they having. If you looking to make a quick buck, let me know. You'll get paid per hour and they willing to accept someone during or after hours.

Quite urgent.

ThanX
monster
what is there problem they having can you be more specific
Fishfly
is it DB related or is it the application problems?
Nuf
Haven't got a frikken clue. I've mailed them to find out.
Nuf
Ok, here's what I was told:

The main reason for reinstallation is the that they lost the UserID and password.

We’ve tried to uninstall MYSQL on Windows 2000 Server.

When restarting the server MYSQL is still running and functional.

When we’ve tried to remove the MYSQL folder an error message is displayed that says some of the DLL’s used by MYSQL is still in use even though IIS,SQL SERVER,TOMCAT,MYSQL services was stopped.

StanDarsh
There should be no need to reinstall MySQL if you lose your admin password.
The MySQL Reference has the answer.

Tell your associate he owes me lunch. And to check out this site. I just searched Google for "mysql forgot admin password windows", and that was the 1st result.

Ok, well, don't you want to make some money and do it for them? If I just point him in the right direction, there's no money to be made. He's a bit of an asshole and he's quite rich, so don't feel bad for charging for a simple task.
StanDarsh
Not really, no. I'm in CT and I don't have time to get involved with Terminal Services and some dude who might never actually pay me, and then keep calling me everytime something else breaks.
Nuf
Well, the CT thing would be a problem. I don't think we'd cover the flight costs for a 1 hour problem.
About payment, we would pay the person doing the job, and claim back from the client (so no chance of the client screwing the person). And if they call for every problem, we charge for the time spent on the phone. And if they don't pay, I can't afford lawyers, so I'm happy if I've done enough damage to them to cover 10x the expense they've screwed me out of.
We've never not been paid tongue.gif

We have been screwed out of a huge job once by a someone we thought we could trust. I'm waiting for the person to get back into the country so I can "discuss" this with them.
StanDarsh
Seriously dude, it should be a 5 min fix. Do it yourself?
Nuf
I would rather have someone with MySQL experience do it just in case there's another problem. Then I look like an idiot.
Fishfly
Hmmm as far as I can tell the guy didn't stop the instance of the mysql so the database is still running on the system, thus you cannot delete the folder.

If he tries to reinstall mysql it would give him a error on the port due to another instance that is running.
