Riddick star signs up for Hitman movie, possibly also providing voice and likeness for Agent 47's next videogame outing
11:11 Macho man Vin Diesel is to take the lead role of Agent 47 in 20th Century Fox's forthcoming silver screen adaptation of Eidos' assassin series Hitman, Reuters is reporting. And Vin Diesel's involvement with videogame's deadliest bald guy might not end there. Reuters further reports that Eidos and Hitman developer IO Interactive are planning to chat with the actor and his videogame enterprise Tigon Studios in connection with the follow-up to Hitman: Blood Money. Talks could lead to Diesel lending his likeness and voice to Agent 47 in his next outing.
It's said that Blood Money's successor is expected to launch alongside the Hitman movie.

Another movie filled with action and dumb one-liners (which are not funny)? Well the fact Vin is attached to it doesn't make it better I guess... Although he was cool in Pitch Black (not the sequel) so well see.

Some of you diss Vin Diesel for his acting ability. Honestly, who cares if he can act or not. I watch movies to be entertained, and he does provide it in his movies. The same with someone like The Rock. They are both entertainers.

Vin Diesel is a good choice (I also dig his voice), but yes, at the mention of Bruce Willis, I can't help but agree that he would be the better choice, as he is one of the most versatile actors out there. If he doesn't get an actor for best actor somday, he should get the lifetime achievement award.
About Diesel's acting, yes, it isn't oscar-winning stuff, but seriously though, this is a movie based on a video game... acting doesnt really count!

All you guys touting Bruce Willis obviously have not seen his latest effort in Hostage. You can't seriously tell me you consider him to be a superior actor to Vin Diesel when he gives mediocre performances like that.

Ah, finally they make a cool video game bsaed movie! Lets hope they dont screw it up! Screw both Willis and Diesel, they should cast John Malkovich as Hitman, hehe, now that is an intense actor!

I havent seen Hostage, however I have seen movies like The Sixth Sense, in which Willis gives a good performance - better than anything Diesel has ever been able to deliver.
Willis has proven himself as an action star from yesteryear, and unlike the other action heroes from his time (Arnie, Sly), he has pulled of dramatic roles convincingly as well.

Somewhere along the line Vin Diesel fucked up. He must’ve. Right? How can you explain being one of the world’s hottest new movie stars - not to mention the man tipped to be the next big cinematic action hero - and then suddenly drop to the bottom of the charts like a Toni Pearen track?
Personally, I think the bucks got in the way – as in, Diesel wanted too much to do what he does. On the other hand, I’d say it also has something to do with Diesel trying to escape an image he hadn’t yet fully created. OK, so he didn’t want to be known as a muscly action-hero forever, but it wouldn’t have hurt to have done one more “XXX” (which everyone seemed to love him in, including the studio) movie before he demanded ‘more’ from his career. But no, Mark Vincent seemingly broke away from the genre he was making a name for himself in, well, before he’d even got remotely comfortable. Kinda disappointing. Sly and Arnold took at least a decade before they decide to shake things up – soon learning that they were restricted in what they could do - the big guy really should’ve partook in a conference call with them, before passing on those sumly sequel pay-days.
Now, another blow for VD. According to Aint it Cool News, he has been pushed from a project he’s really been rooting for. “Hitman” was a project Diesel was psyched as hell about. Based on the video game of the same name, it was apparently something he’d been trying to develop for quite a while now – possibly as a franchise- and was getting closer and closer to becoming a reality. Now, Twentieth Century Fox has decided they’re going to go “a different way” and have dropped Diesel for Timothy Olyphant. The “Deadwood” star is FOX’s new ‘it boy’, it seems. He’s currently doing “Live Free or Die Hard” for Rupert’s troops.
The Skip Woods written film could be in theatres as early as next Fall. It fixes on a gun-for-hire Agent 47 (Olyphant) who is hired by a group known as "The Agency" to kill targets for cash.
Meanwhile, Diesel continues to try and push his “Hannibal the Conqueror” uphill.
Erm... what the fuck? This Olyphant guys does not even resemble Agent 47 in any way, that one can see him playing the role (at least Diesel has the proverbial bald head).

Variety has confirmed the rumors that Timothy Olyphant (Live Free or Die Hard) has been cast in the lead role, Agent 47, in the Luc Besson-produced Hitman at 20th Century Fox. Newcomer Xavier Gens will direct.
The trade says that Fox sees the film as having franchise potential, and Olyphant's deal allows for sequels.
Production is slated to begin in March in Europe. Skip Woods' script is based on the "Hitman" videogame franchise set in the world of Agent 47, a genetically engineered assassin.
Besson is producing via his Europa Corp., along with Chuck Gordon and Adrian Askarieh. Daniel Alter co-produces.
Vin Diesel was previously attached as the lead but opted out to star in Fox's big-budget tentpole Babylon A.D.
Nah, I for one am not too thrilled with this casting.

Timothy Olyphant was a good choice but again we have proof that video game adaptations rarely work not all that bad though, it had it's moments.
My mom and sister watched it with me and neither has played or even heard of the games and they absolutely loved the movie, so yeah not a bad movie, just dissapointing game-freak wise

Yeah this was a mediocre movie hey.
The Hitman itself is...uncool?
He walks funny as mentioned above here but I can buy that still (I don't know, his upbringing or something?) The whole thing just lacks excitement, its paint by the numbers, throw some whang bang there, some titty there, feelings where they aren't supposed to be there, etc etc). In the end Hitman prevails and yeah...
+1 for tit and thats about it.
5/10.
