The "moviez" I'm refering to is the ones you download from P2P Networks like KaZaA or I-Mesh. I downloaded the first part of The Sum of All Fears last night. Sure the Image quality wasnt that good. But it worked! And I had access to it before the cinemas or video stores. Pietersburg is a very dead place.
So what do you think? Are these sick pirates who smuggle cams into cinemas and record the movies for proffit or sharing. Or is this a great way to watch a movie, if you don't have the money for the cinema. Is this another great way of trying before watching?
I want your views, positive or negative, on this subject.

Personally I think the actors are paid to much so I'm for everything that'll bring their pay and their egos back to Earth. Unfortunately the producers would rather cut pay for the FX team than the actors. -_-
However if a movie is really good, I would want to own the original.

Not unless, you've seen the movie, and then want it for yourself. Besides, the Sum of All Fears is really good! I saw the first 1 hr and I'm convinced it's a good movie! So, I'm going to see it tonight!

Kazaa rulez. Movies shouldn't be killed. Its an excellent way to watch what you want to, when you want to and without paying high movies prices.
Its more pleasant as there i no ass that keeps kicking your seat from behind.
So, all in all Warez movies rule

I agree, I have only ONE downloaded something succesfully from Kazaa, Worms Armageddon (I'm waiting for the CD to come (which I bought legaly)).
Those movies are too much for a 56k! :o
Good or bad? Well, most of the time I end up hiring the DVD cause the rips are not good!
Once saw Knight's Tale before it even hit the Cinemas in the US, but the DVD was better!

Only DVD Rips are too much for 56K users! I download TmD (A dude that records movies in cinemas on his video camera) movies. They're of reasonable quality, and sound and there are no cruch shots! Thank God! But they're pretty good and small! Never more than 200mb. I download them within 24 hrs.

the same argument for buying "grey" computer games can be used for moviez as well.
most movies (and games) are junk. it's an insult to our intelligence, and pocket, to buy/rent/watch these. Given that a movie ticket is around R25 + the 2 hours u spend watching it, i think it's justified to download these and see what it's like.
if u like it, go out and buy it. I know i would like to buy Fast and the Furious, Spiderman, and other such gems. Spoil the plot??? how is that different from watching the same tired old plot over and over again in similarly styled movies?
The movie moguls rip us off by putting more effort into creating the trailers than the movies themselves. time we got out own back.

With my download speeds, it's much cheaper to just go watch the damn thing, popcorn and all, than download it. Of coarse it's always better on the big screen, but sometimes you just miss the movies and instead of waiting for it to hit video stores or tv, just dowlnoad it.

i downloaded shallow hal quite a while ago and i had to read the english to understand because it was in some other language and it seemed like someone took a video camera into a cinema because i could see people standing in the way
so downloading is poor quality and it takes two long on a 56k

well I dont have a problem with it. Its gonna be shown on Mnet anywayz
Well, maybe if I was still living in SA or when I ever move back I will have something to say about this, but here a movie on DVD cost between $10 and $25.
So it is not even worth trying to copy or download movies.
but even so, I will never waste my time downloading a movie that was made with a Cam corder, that sucks.

Hey well....you ppl complaining about the bad quality of some of those movies. Dont be fooled.
A movie's size should not be less than 650MB, else the quality will be crap. I have downloaded 6 DivX rips so far, and all of them are excellent quality. I just want to get a DVD rom now so that i can rip everything instead of downloading the stuff off this crappy 56k connection :(

You are looking at +- R8000 for n DVD writer

Nah not really.
Me Pop hooked up a DVD-writer for R5400 or so, not too bad.
My DVD-Rip od Fight Club is 537Mb and it looks slick!
My lord of the rings though is massive at 1.43GB

Nov 17 2002, 11:20 PM
Well.the size of the movie depends totally on the bitrate you use!
Besides lord of the rings is a long movie with loads of excellent movie scenes...thus the bitrate would be quite high to maintain the excellent quality.
High Bitrate = large movie file.
Just use a bitrate calculator. These usually display the estimated filesize based on the bitrate you enter and vice-versa.

Even though I 'm part of the problem with Divx flicks and all. The whole bootleg industry gots to go, cause it spreads to everywhere else.
You wouldn't believe that half of the Sean-John shirts, track pants, jeans and all that are floatin' 'round this side is from some du' in Brick City sellin' fake shit. People buy it by the boat loads and bring it all on to S.A
Same goes with fake DVD's and all. You end up gettin' some Porn Pearl habour from Asia somewhere because you wanted a R100 film instead of waitin' for the real zone 2 release!
