No director has been signed up as yet, so, they are not moving ahead with the scheduled start early next year, which means that there is no November release to look forward to with regards to this movie.

The good news though is that they are going to focus more on true spy stuff, instead of the action-packed bullshit that has been spewed out recently.

everyone knows the formula already.
spoilt vacation -> mission briefing -> love interest -> madman leaves bond alone to die in torture chamber -> bond escapes, kicks madman off a building, saves the world

talk about flogging a dead horse

Come to think of it, Grace Jones was aother affirmative appointment in the James Bond series... although, it is understandable why she would be forgotten, seeing that she is so puke.gif

looking forward to this one

There is only one JB - Sean Connery. The other Bond movies' "story line" stayed basically the same as the first few. Only the toys, fx and some Bond girls got better. punk.gif

Brosnan has said that he is officially done with Bond - well, almost.

He did say that he would like to star in Tarantino's Casino Royale, which is based on a Bond novel.

Brosnan did mention that he would like to see Colin Farrell take over the Bond franchise though.

QUOTE
DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) - Pierce Brosnan, who played British agent James Bond in the last four "007" films, says he thinks fellow Irishman Colin Farrell would be his ideal successor.

Brosnan, 51, said several actors could ably fill his shoes as Bond, which he began in 1995 with "GoldenEye" and concluded with 2002's "Die Another Day."

"But I'll give it to Colin Farrell. He'll eat the head off them all," Brosnan said following an entertainment awards ceremony Saturday in Dublin.

Farrell, 28, appeared with Tom Cruise in the 2002 sci-fi thriller, "Minority Report," and has the title role in Oliver Stone's upcoming "Alexander."

Brosnan didn't specify any other actors that he thought would make a good 007.

He also said he was discussing a possible collaboration with director Quentin Tarantino, who is considering making a film of the Bond novel "Casino Royale."

"We have discussed things, Quentin and I, but I don't know if it's going to be that particular project," Brosnan said.

The Daily Bulletin attended a Q&A session with Casino Royale co-producer Michael G. Wilson who, knowing he would be asked James Bond questions, started off with what is known:

Without naming the questions, he gave this answer: "I don't know which actor; Jan. 17; Oct. 19, 2006; Aston Martin; "Casino Royale'; Martin Campbell; Prague and South Africa; yes, Judi Dench will be back; and no, Halle Berry won't reprise, but I'd love to make another film with her."

To translate for non-Bond fans: who will play Bond; when does filming begin; when's it coming out; which car will Bond drive; what's the title; who's the director; where are the locations; who will play M.; and is Jinx in it.

From here.

I wonder which locations in South Africa will be used.

Then, some more news:

QUOTE
Although Sony's Casino Royale started production in Prague last Friday, the film is still missing a leading lady and a villain, says The Hollywood Reporter.

A source familiar with the Martin Campbell-directed production told the trade that scenes involving James Bond's love interest don't begin for more than a month, and the studio still has some breathing room before compromising the film's schedule.

"They're talking to three to four girls right now," "Royale" screenwriter Paul Haggis said. "Every week I read there's a new Bond girl, and I call them and they say, No, you idiot."

Daniel Craig was cast as Bond in October, leaving the remainder of the cast a mystery. In recent days, Rachel McAdams and Thandie Newton have emerged as possible Bond girls. The trade added that the casting of the villain is much further along than that of the female star.

This is apparently the final cast:

QUOTE
It was announced today by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc, and Sony Pictures Entertainment that Eva Green has been cast to play the enticing Vesper Lynd opposite Daniel Craig in his debut appearance as James Bond in the highly anticipated 007 adventure thriller, Casino Royale.

It was also announced that Jeffrey Wright has joined the cast as Felix Leiter. Yesterday, the studios confirmed that renowned Danish-born actor Mads Mikkelsen has accepted the role of Le Chiffre, Bond's nemesis in the film.

Casino Royale reunites Wilson and Broccoli with Martin Campbell, who directed the 1995 blockbuster GoldenEye, and will be the 21st James Bond film produced by the franchise holders, EON Productions. The MGM/Columbia Pictures production began shooting in January this year and will be released worldwide on November 17. It will be filmed on location in the Czech Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and the UK.

Wilson and Broccoli said, "We are thrilled that Eva and Mads have joined the cast of 'Casino Royale' completing a first rate international cast. They bring exceptional talent to the characters Ian Fleming described so vividly in his first James Bond novel.

After an extensive search we have found the perfect actress. Eva is one of France's most accomplished young actresses, now receiving international acclaim. She brings to the complex role of Vesper an exciting combination of enigmatic and seductive beauty.

Likewise Mads has such a compelling onscreen presence and his riveting performances in 'Open Hearts' and 'Adam's Apples' convinced both us and director Martin Campbell that he was ideal for the role of Le Chiffre."

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade wrote the screenplay based on author Ian Fleming's first novel. Additional writing was contributed by Academy Award-nominated writer, Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby).

"Vesper is a pivotal role in 'Casino Royale' and it takes much more than beauty to make this role work," said Amy Pascal, Chairman of the Columbia Pictures Motion Picture Group. "When you think about the great James Bond adventures, of course you think about action and espionage, but you need to have palpable sexual tension in the movie and in casting Vesper, we really needed to up the ante, because this character is very much an equal to Bond and central to our story. We believe Eva as Vesper, Mads as Le Chiffre and Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter are perfect additions to our cast and we couldn't be more excited about the way this project has come together."

Described by Bernardo Bertolucci as "so beautiful it's indecent," Eva Green is one of the most intriguing actresses today. Born in Paris, France, she made her debut in Bertolucci's critically acclaimed The Dreamers. Green then starred opposite Kristin Scott Thomas and Romain Duris in Jean-Paul Salome's French-language film, Arsene Lupin. In 2005 she made her Hollywood debut, starring as the female lead in Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven with Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson.

Mads Mikkelsen made his American debut opposite Clive Owen and Keira Knightley in Disney's King Arthur, directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Mikkelsen has won many Scandinavian awards for his work on screen and television. He is best known for his starring role in Susanne Bier's Open Hearts for which he was nominated for "Best Actor" for the Robert (Danish Academy Award) and Bodil (Danish Film Critics' Award) in 2003.

Mikkelsen has recently appeared in Anders Thomas Jensen's Adam's Apples, Susanne Bier's After The Wedding and the Swedish thriller Exit, directed by Peter Lindmark, due for release later this year.

The acclaimed stage actor, Wright, who first came to film audiences' attention as the doomed artist Jean Michel Basquiat in Basquiat, has subsequently garnered critical acclaim in his Emmy-winning performance in HBO's miniseries Angels in America, and in such films as Shaft, Ali, The Manchurian Candidate, Broken Flowers, Syriana and HBO's recent Lackawanna Blues. He will soon be seen in Lady in the Water and The Visiting.

The producers are delighted that the cast is rounded out by talented international actors in feature roles, including; Giancarlo Giannini as Mathis, Caterina Murino as Solonge, Simon Abkarian as Dimitrios, Tobias Menzies as Villiers, Ivana Milicevic as Valenka, Clemens Schik as Kratt, Ludger Pistor as Mendel, and Claudio Santamaria as Carlos.

And more villain info:

QUOTE
Casino Royale director Martin Campbell confirmed on Wednesday that Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (King Arthur) will play the evil Le Chiffre in the 21st James Bond installment.

Campbell, Daniel Craig, Judi Dench and producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were on-hand at a press conference today at the Czech Republic's Barrandov Studios.

Asked who will play the Bond girl, Campbell revealed the choice is now down to "two or three" but added "you'll just have to wait to find out." Eva Green and Olivia Wilde are thought to be the finalists.

Variety says audiences will see more insight into M's (Dench) back story than they ever have to date in the film with a scene set in her London apartment, constructed in modernist beige by Barrandov, complete with Asian art and Tanqueray gin cocktail service.

Bond himself will show his more sensitive side, said Campbell, in that the film, based on the first of Ian Fleming's Bond books, reveals how he became "the Bond we all know and love."

The cast and crew jet off to the Bahamas shortly to shoot a chase sequence at seaside construction site, then will be back to Prague for studio and location work, and Italy and the U.K.'s Pinewood.

March 6, 2006 - Variety finally got Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson of Eon Productions to go on the record about the litany of nasty news and increasingly ridiculous rumors that have been swirling around Casino Royale and new leading man Daniel Craig for the last few months. (The latest is that Craig will be the screen's first Bond to do a nude scene.)

"His teeth are fine, his driving is fine, he doesn't have heat rash and he's not afraid of the water," Broccoli told the trade, addressing several of the reports that have been circulating in print and online. "We're aware of (the gossip), but it doesn't mean anything to us."

And while Wilson calls Eon's alliance with new Bond studio Sony Pictures "collegial," Broccoli concedes that, "We're all very strong-minded individuals." That said, the producers say they are on good terms with Sony chief Amy Pascal and that she is playing a key role in the production.

As for what viewers can expect of the new, grittier Bond film, Wilson said, "There will still be effects, but they won't be obvious to the audience." He added, "We have great action sequences, a lot of things blowing up ... but not space effects or things disappearing or invisible cars."

Meanwhile, Oscar nominee Dame Judi Dench, who reprises her role as Bond's boss "M" in Casino Royale, has taken the opportunity to knock Craig's critics. "I hate how people have been attacking Daniel Craig. It's despicable and it disgusts me," Dench told The Sun. "I have filmed with him in Prague and the Bahamas and he is a fine actor. He brings something new and edgy to the role."

Finally, CommanderBond.net has posted a gallery of new photos from the Bahamian set of Casino Royale. The spy shots reveal the location for what it supposed to be a scene set in Madagascar. No new pics of Bond himself though.

You see, Bond is pretty dandy and will blow everyone away when it finally gets released!

Seems like they are certain that the 21st Bond film will do good cos they already planned the next one and it even got a release date (no script or title is known though) :

t's four months before the scheduled premiere of the next James Bond movie, Casino Royale, but on Thursday, Bond producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced that the 22nd 007 movie will have its debut on May 2, 2008. The title of the movie was not disclosed -- nor even whether a script had been written -- but the producers did announce that Daniel Craig will return to portray Bond. "As we wrap production on Casino Royale, we couldn't be more excited about the direction the franchise is heading with Daniel Craig," Wilson and Broccoli said in a statement. "Daniel has taken the origins of Ian Fleming's James Bond portraying, with emotional complexity, a darker and edgier 007."

This news about the title song sure sounds good biggrin.gif

At least we are not getting Robbie Williams or some lame popstar to do it!

July 26, 2006 - Chris Cornell, the screaming siren voiced frontman of Audioslave (and former lead singer for Soundgarden, as well as Temple of the Dog) has written the main title theme to the new James Bond entry Casino Royale.

Cornell collaborated on the song, entitled "You Know My Name," with long time Bond composer David Arnold (who has scored all the Bond films since Tomorrow Never Dies)

"I've always loved Chris' work, both as a writer and as an artist, and had hoped someday to find the right film to inspire him," said Lia Vollack, President, Worldwide Music for Columbia Pictures. "His music is both soulful and tough. It was the perfect complement to Daniel Craig and CASINO ROYALE."

Cornell joins ranks with the likes of Paul McCartney & Wings, Sheryl Crow, Chrissie Hynde, and Madonna in terms of being a modern pop icon who has penned an original James Bond theme song.

An early review of "Casino Royale" has gone up at The Sun and proclaims Daniel Craig "the best Bond since Connery... Craig makes Brosnan look a bit girlie in comparison". The paper also singles out the action sequences (notably the free running sequence), assorted performances and director Martin Campbell.

After spending most of the article praising the film, it does have some criticism of the film's editing and runtime - "Like the novel, it suffers from a lack of sharpness in the plot. You will need to concentrate as you follow the story because, running at a whopping two hours and 20 minutes, the movie is 20 minutes too long. A healthy bit of editing would have avoided confusing scenes where some characters appear and disappear inexplicably. And, often, the characters do things for no apparent reason".

A new version of the "Casino Royale" theme by Chris Cornell has gone online, utilising more instruments and music. The good news is it flattens out that jarring tonal change between verse and chorus, bad news is it simply sounds too busy now (and the trumpets really annoying). The music video premieres next Monday on MTV.

Also it's officially been confirmed by UK newspaper The Mirror Director Martin Campbell that Ewan McGregor was the first choice for the role of James Bond but he turned the producers down.

Finally a March 27th 2007 release date has been announced for the DVD in the UK, putting the film/DVD window at a relatively average four and a bit months.
