I kinda enjoy The Terminator trilogy.

But a fourth one will just ruin it.

"Variety reports that not only will a fourth "Terminator" movie become a reality some time relatively soon, but also that the Fox network is where you'll eventually be able to find "The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

"Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar's C2 Pictures, which produced the most recent "Terminator" feature, has pacted with Warner Bros. TV and scribe Josh Friedman ("War of the Worlds") for the tentatively titled "The Sarah Connor Chronicles." Skein* will focus on robo-warrior Sarah Connor and her savior son John Connor.

Friedman is aboard to pen the pilot and serve as exec producer - showrunner of the series, which will take place in the fictional time frame between the second and third "Terminator" features.

In addition, Vajna confirmed that C2 is in "the final phases of development" of a fourth "Terminator" pic and that the series will have a link to what's being envisioned as a new feature trilogy.

Friedman said his "challenge is trying to figure out how to reinterpret (Connor) for television."

Because the "Terminator" franchise involves time travel and alternate futures, Friedman believe he'll be able to take a few plot liberties in the series -- emphasis on "few."

"The last thing I want to do is take a title and exploit it," Friedman said. "The show needs to stand on its own while still being respectful of the franchise."

Unlike the features, "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" will not be non-stop shoot-'em-up or chase scenes, in large part because of the reduced budgets of television.

"There's going to be a healthy dose of both (action and family drama)," Friedman said, noting that the "Terminator" mythology "has a lot of big ideas in it that don't cost you a dime to explore.""

No word yet whether Arnold will be back...

That said, I have always hated tv shows based on movies - they always just lacked the "magic" that the movie had, like Stargate.

Terminator 4 producer Andy Vajna tells the AAP that the fourth film could be shot Down Under.

"We were thinking about Australia. We have been looking at the Warner Bros Studios down there but it is early days," Vajna said from the set of his current film, Children of Glory, in Hungary. "That would be probably early next year."

He added that the script by John Brancato and Michael Ferris is ready to go. "We have the script ready and we are now looking for a director and figuring out what the next step is," said Vajna.

Regarding whether or not Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back, Vajna added, "We would like Arnie in it as a cameo. We want to go on with the Terminator and turn it into a real sci-fi picture and there is a very interesting role for Arnold if he decides he wants to do it.

Arnold's return will depend on his political career, says Vajna.

Terminator 4 co-writer Michael Ferris has given Entertainment Weekly a hint about what we can expect from the next installment. First, however, he addressed the questions on whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back.

"'Terminator 3' kind of closed the book on Schwarzenegger, as did his gubernatorial career," said Ferris, who wrote the fourth film with John Brancato.

Another missing element is producer Gale Anne Hurd, who worked on the first three films and is not involved, and "T3" director Jonathan Mostow has yet to sign on (he'll be busy adapting Marvel's Sub-Mariner for a while).

As far as plot points, Ferris offered this tease: "You will learn about Skynet and what that postapolyptic future is like."

Despite rumours that he’d appear in a cameo or play a small role pre-credits, the film’s screenwriter confirms that the Governor won’t be involved in the new film.

Previous reports suggested that the new “Terminator” film is designed as the first in a trilogy that’ll tie in with the new TV series, “The Sarah Connor Chronicles”. It’s likely that it’ll feature all new characters.

For the moment, all Ferris is saying is that “You will learn about Skynet and what that postapolyptic future is like."

MGM chief operating officer Rick Sands revealed this week that the studio is on the hunt for another star to headline the next “Terminator” movie, says Variety.

"It's like the 'Batman' or 'Superman' franchise in that it lends itself to having different actors in the roles," he said, adding that the film will not be called “Terminator 4”.

One rumour that’s starting to doing the rounds is that Sylvester Stallone – who headlines MGM’s forthcoming “Rocky Balboa” – might have been asked to feature in the new “Terminator” pic. (Doubt he’ll accept the offer – because it will be seen as picking up his former action adversary’s sloppy seconds).

Sands is also hoping to produce two prequel films to “Lord of the Rings”, based on “The Hobbit”, as well as sequels to “The Thomas Crown Affair” and “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is to return as The Terminator. Well, briefly anyway.

Though he’s supposed to be captaining the state, its been reported that the Oak will indeed make a cameo appearance in the forthcoming “Terminator 4”. Previous reports suggested he wouldn’t be involved at all (The way I see it, if he can make time to do a cameo in a frickin’ Tom Arnold movie – “The Kid & 1” – he can make time to do a couple of days on a film reprising his most iconic role).

“I think it's in his contract [to make an appearance]”, MGM CEO Harry Sloan told The Boston Herald, confirming that it’ll probably only be a “cameo”.

According to Sloan, they’re on the hunt for another actor to play the new Terminator, though (There was talk at one stage of Vin Diesel... but I'd say that idea is long forgotten). No doubt, John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris, have written the film with someone in mind.

And Arnie might be in this after all...

After seeing all the promos, I decided to wait for this to come on e-tv or SABC before I waste time watching it.

Arnold Schwarzenenger will be seen in the next Terminator movie, after all! But don’t do back flips just yet, fans…

Representatives for Halcyon, the studio that recently acquired the rights to the Terminator franchise, tell EW the Austrian Oak has granted the company permission to use his likeness in the film.

“We’ll be using computer altered stock images of Arnold. That way we can span his entire career, from the frightening 80’s era Terminator to the ice cool T2 version”, says Halycon’s Derek Anderson.

Annabelle Gross, Schwarzenegger ’s rep, hinted further involvement in the series. “He’s signed on as Executive Producer for all three pictures, and we are in talks for further appearance licenseing”.

It’s believed that Schwarzenegger may be considering an offer from the studio to provide his facial features in the form of a cast.

“Terminator 4” will revolve around a thirty-something John Connor doing battle with the endoskeleton son-of-a-bitches.

Well, did I mention that it is not THE Arnie returning?

Scooper 'Pauluz' alerted us that model/actor Marcus Schenkenberg revealed new details about Terminator 4 on Dutch talk show "Jensen!":

Just wanted to inform you about something interesting. The male model Marcus Schenkenberg was on a Dutch tv show and mentioned he went to Cannes last week and booked four new movie roles. One thing that stood out was Terminator 4 and he also mentioned that Schwarzenegger would have a 30-sec cameo. A clip of the interview that will be online next week.

Both series’ fans and Oak buffs are waiting anxiously to hear what Halycon’s plans for the new “Terminator” is – will it feature a Schwarzenegger cameo? (doubtful, me thinks); will it follow the events of the last movie or jump ahead in time?; will any of the supporting cast from the previous films return?; and is there any truth to the rumours that Rachel Weisz and Chloe Sevigny are ‘battling’ it out to play the new femme-bot in the movie? Though only a couple of those questions were answered, James Middleton, consulting producer on the new FOX TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, tells IGN Movies painted a clearer picture of the new movie.

At this present time –
• No director is attached
• The characters of John Connor and Kate Brewster do appear in the script though it’s not known whether Nick Stahl or Clare Danes will reprise their roles from “Rise of the Machines”; that may come down to who the director wants.
• It won’t be called “Terminator 4” but more so something like “Terminator : Blah, Blah, Blah” sans a number.
• It will follow the events of “Terminator 3” and be set in a post-apocalyptic world.
• The movie will feature a new hero as the main character. Middleton likened it to how "Ben-Hur was influenced by Jesus Christ, but it was his story. Much in that way, this character will be influenced by John Connor."
• It’s planned to be the first of three new “Terminator” movies, all of them set in this post-apocalyptic future and showing the war with the machines.
• Halcyon would like to be in pre-production in October with an eye towards a 2009 release.

So that should hold you over until they announce the director; cast and whether or not those Edward Furlong rumours – some sites have pegged me as returning to the role of John Connor – are BS.

I on the other hand hated T1 and 2.
