Lately I have noticed that schweet chicks all smoke...?

I don't smoke and I heard in that case that kissing a girl, that smokes, doesn't taste that good.

Anways... it's as if each time I've gone to a pub, club etc. and checked out a girl. (you know that whole glancing thing that goes on in the first few minutes) just a few seconds after that the girl lights up her ziggy.

Now every1 is allowed to do as they please but if all hot chicks start to smoke I'll have to go for one of those girls who started building their trousseau in grade 9 eek.gif or start to smoke myself (considering this alot these days)

Is this just me or is there a trend starting (or that has started a while ago and I only noticed it now) where all cool girls have to smoke?

Any thoughts? smoke.gif

JuCa
Ah smoking... I myself was a smoker (not for long though but every day you smoke fucks up your lungs I guess!)

The trend is actually everyone starts smoking (at young ages even) and this is all thanx to this generation which thinks they have to lower the bar for everyone (sex/ drink / smoke). I mean they really start doing it all younger and younger but anyway!

I can't really have something against smoking seeing as I did it myself but I do mention it if I sit in an area and I alone don't smoke (which happens more then you would think) so that people might be considerate (secondhand smoke kills aswell).

Smoking is a way of saying screw you world and becomes an addiction which a few can turn away from (although they claim they can!).
I mean my first smoke didn't taste nice but it is all an image thing (rock & roll) and I still believe that if I once become famous and go in the music world (which is never) I will just pick up smoking for the mere fact of being cool but for now I feel happy that my lungs can have fresh clean air!

My advice would be to ask ur girl to be considerate and take some mintz or something before going to the next step. Other then that my gf smokes and I do mind it but not to the extend that I will break up with her but the fact is that girls who smoke looks ordinary (unless with the right light / angle/ makeup like in the movies/magazines)

Kissing a smoker is like kissing an ashtray, not cool sick.gif

yeah you right ferret... on both counts.

i also was a smoker once, but i couldn't even handle the taste of it in my own mouth after a while! it's a big turn-off for me if a chick smokes ...

When I met my current gf (about 18 months ago), she also smoked. One pretty day in August '03, she just put down her smokes and hasn't touched them since.

not all the "sweet" chicks smoke, they are just harder to find thats all
Elucidator
It's just starting to feel like way back when...at easter time when the sunday school teachers used to hide the easter eggs and say to the class :"go find them".

I would always end up with none.

I suppose this is just going to take some time beer.gif

Kissing a smoker isnt that bad, bad breath is worse, would much rather kiss a smoker. Me and my missus both smoke, so I donr mind. BTW: Skapie is HAWT!

I wouldnt say its only the good looking ones that smoke, it seems to me that on the whole alot more of everyone in the youth age group smoke. Personally I despise the smell of ashtrays. Both of my parents smoke and so does my sister. This hasnt made me any more used to it.

Apoc: Stop trying to pimp your gf online tongue.gif

interesting the way men's minds work...

if all the 'hot' girls smoke, and smoking puts you off....maybe you shouldn't be going for the 'hot' girls...maybe looks aren't everything?

unless you're just pointing it out, in which case I will say small, thin girls tend to smoke a lot, i see that all the time, but dont find smokers to be hotter than the avg.
Dave
smoking is a big turn off for me, and its not just hot chicks, its everyone now days, its seems to be the common trend.

same as a buddy of mine, he doesnt drink at all, and people think he is wierd and uncool because he doesnt drink. wtf is up with that?

I find that 90% of the girls i meet smoke, look, you do get some hot woman who dont smoke, they are hard to find.

Women who smoke turn me on.

Interesting Question, in that in my case the situation is reversed: My GF is a non-smoker, and I'm the smoker. I've already into the process of quiting [box+half a day to half a box a day biggrin.gif] because frankly I know how a mouth can taste after a cigarrete. The thought of her kissing me with that taste in my mouth makes me a little... uncomfortable, something you dont want to feel around the person you love. Hence, the need to quit, something perhaps Aceius's woman can relate to and why she gave it up.

smoking turns me off a little,... but ninja's right... there are plenty plenty fine women out there who don't smoke... maybe it's the places that you hang out at too...?

Ninja Mo - I do not think that it is just the "hot chicks" that smoke. It is just the ones that Elucidator notices and remembers. We males are good at remembering the "Hot chicks".

I do not like it if a chick smokes. It is a real turn off. Soooooo unattractive. I do not like the taste of them when I kiss them and I am not patient to wait for a girl to eat a mint before I kiss her. Can you imagine getting the horn and having to wait 10 min for her to suck a mint?

Just because I like to contradict myself, if I do fall in love with someone I will have to put up with the smoking.

I mean exactly what you said. if only the hot chicks he notices smoke, then he needs to start noticing other hot chicks

Just to drift a little off-topic here. But i don't think that smoking and drinking are really viewed in the same light. If you ask me, the problem some people have with non-drinkers lies mostly with the male population (note: "mostly").

Here's why i say this:
Smoking has become acceptable; part of day-to-day life; ordinary, and even fashionable... when quite frankly it is disgusting. Let's not forget that it also kills you and shit. But hey, that doesn't matter, does it? Go with the flow; adapt and evolve with the moving world and all that crap. If you smoke, all the better for your image, and you have something in common with other smokers (tar infected lungs, no doubt), so koodoes if you do. Fact remains, you either smoke or you don't. No one really gives a flang either way... as long as one side doesn't try and confront the other about it things will remian mostly peaceful.

Drinking on the other hand floats in a whole different cesspool of it's own. Namely the male toilets, really. But anyhow... Girls invented fashion - Boys invented peer pressure (or something to that effect). And we still have not outgrown this silly little immaturity, let alone the childish actions that usually follow. Drinking is sorta like a game/sport, it seems. They go hand in hand, really. And everyone always wants this to be a group activity for some reason. This must have something to do with some sort of primitive and primal instict that comes from our caveman days, i guess. But as soon as a single individual (like myself and your friend, Adelante) shows no interest in partaking in these exercises of exreme buffoonery, they resort to peer, and often physical as well, -pressure. For some reason they just can't seem to take a hint! And woe be those who actually dare to defy them even further.
Suddenly you become an outcast. A spoil sport, a boring nerd and a jackass. This has usually nothing to do with being cool or anything. It's like you have just touched their balls or something. Or if you have offended them by insulting their manhood.

I mean WTF?! What is up with that?
It's like the way people sometimes look at me when i insist that there be no cheese on my burger. Or when i don't eat pizza cause it has cheese on it. Not exactly the same thing, but still...

But in closing, another thought has sprung to mind.
I was just wondering... what do we all have in common over here? Well, we use/abuse and browse the internet in some way. We are all, dare i even say it, geeks!
Now, there seems to be a general consesus in this topic that smoking is kak. But doesn't that make you wonder if we (as geeks) are the only ones who share this sentiment? Evidently, there are oodles of other people out there who simply don't give a crap about the shit often mentioned on the NF Forums for example (not specifically in Mars & venus).

Smoking is distgusting in your opinion. Yes I am a smoker, and both of my parents smoke. But I am still considerate towards non smokers, I will enquire if friends mind if I light up or not, and if my smoke is blowing anywhere near them, I will put it out, or move away. Thats me, I dont mind smoke in my face, I have had it all my life, But I know it must be annoying for non-smokers.

On your point of being cool. Almost non of my friends smoke, and most of them often tell me I should stop. Am I trying to be cool? Dont tell me Im addicted, because I know I can, and have done a few times, go for months without thinking about a cigarette, let alone wanting one. I smoke when I feel like a smoke. I enjoy smoking, I dont do it to look cool, or because I cant stop.

I know a guy who is a fantastic sportsman, he smokes, and doesnt want to give up. Thats him.
I also know a fantastic swimmer (swam in world championships in Edinburgh in june) and he used to smoke, but now hates it, and all who smoke with a pasion. If you light up within 100meters of him he will tell you that you are gay and stupid.
So no, I dont think that it is just the geek community that frowns upon smoking in general, I just think that most smokers have been keeping quite about their status in this thread.

Well, yeah, granted. Some people do. What i'm trying to get at is the following two issues.
1.) Smoking often starts out during school or college. Sort of like a rebellious act of coolness or something. Be honest with me here, a lot (and i do mean a lot) of people either jump on that smoking train immediately, or cave pretty damn quickly - That's very much a given.
2.) In the film and entertainment industry, smoking is more of a fashion statement and social status changer/indicator than anything else. That's just one side of the nature of the corruption.

What i'm saying is not that people smoke to fit in, but that they usually started out that way. Now, they either got no choice anymore cause they are unable to quit, or it has become such a huge habit that they simply don't stop.
And that smoking is, in this day and age, touted as being cool or whatever. Maybe an attempt to lure additional victims - Something that seems to work disturbingly well, mind you.

um yeah, wasn't trying to hide it, but if a confession is called for...

I do smoke

Have done since std 6, which was what, when I was twelve? I enjoy it...I like it, I will stop when I want to, and if that upsets people, makes them sad, makes them feel like im wasting my life, my lungs or other things. I say to you, "remove the log from your own eyes before removing the speck from mine"

What I did find was that most girls say that they don't plan on smoking forever...but that's what most smokers say.

I guess I was just pointing it out... I don't have any problems with smokers that would lead me to ignore a smoking girl. Only that I heard kissing tastes bad if you are the non-smoker.

Maybe this topic calls for practical investigation renske.gif

I find that smokers are a huge turn off even if that chick could be my soulmate if she smokes I'll tune her to piss off. You may say thats discrimination but it's my feeling towards siggies.... Hate it? Yes I do.

To do with the main topic, have to say that the most attractive girls I know are non-smokers. Just depends on where you go - club scene is drowning in smokers I guess, just goes with the territory.

offtopic.gif I don't like smokers who are inconsiderate - hate them with a passion actually - but I can't hate someone just for smoking. I always try to discourage them coz I've seen how it screws ppl up first hand but it's not my decision to make.

WOW...I didn't think smoking was such a big issue. Some of You guys really get worked up about it.

I read something once that said it was impossible to F#ck nature up since afterwards there will be someting thats immune to the destruction. (just like they tried to kill all malaria mosquitoes with DDT)

So if you want to be technical you get those ppl who smoke all their lives and never get sick (some get sick when they stop) thus after about a thousand years all the ppl with smoke intolerance will die and all the rest will have super durable lungs.

Supa_Fly
Elucidator, something to note about smokers:
i) smokers have a much poorer sense of taste & smell than non-smokers, so they don't notice how bad their breath smells most of the time & they certainly won't notice if the person that they kiss has bad breath. Unless that person has a severe case of halitosis.
ii) nicotine is a very effective appetite suppressant, especially in women, which is why many catwalk models smoke. Most young women seem to have nice figures until they stop smoking & then their body goes back to what it would've been without the nicotine. Hense the reason why a lotta chicks put on weight after quitting smoking... tongue.gif
Carnajo
Most put on weight after smoking, not so much because of the lack of suppresant, but mostly due to jitteryness and the need to do something with their hands. It's more psychological than physiological.
Supa_Fly
Carnajo
Nicotine reacts with your body on many different levels. When you quit smoking your brain preceives that the body's levels of Serotonin are lower. Serotonin is a "feel good" chemical. When Serotonin levels in the body are lower or the brain perceives that there is shortage of Serotonin, it causes cravings for starchy foods (biscuits, cakes, pasta, chips, etc). Serotonin is a chemical that the body produces during exercise.

Nicotine is also an appetite suppressant & it increases your metabolism. Smoking burns a lot of calories & so when you quit you have a bunch of extra calories that aren't being burned by an 'enhanced' metabolism, since your metabolic rate slows down when you quit. So now all those extra calories need to be burnt by a lifestyle change like extra exercise & dieting. Add this to the fact that you are alread craving starchy foods & jittery from not having anything to occupy your hands with, and you have a good recipe for weight gain.
While I do agree with you about the psychological aspect of quitting, the physiological aspect plays a HUGE role.
Carnajo
Sorry, didn't mean to underplay the physiological aspects.

Guess it depennds on the person, and who you ask, on whether the psychological effects or physiological effects are greater.
Artagra
I'm surprised that so many people seem to view smoking as normal. My group of friends (mostly 18-25, single or dating, high school educated and most getting a degree / working) pretty much all view smoking hugely negatively. We don't shun smokers (many of us used to) but we really don't see the point, and it definitely is a negative mark on someone if they choose to smoke.

Artag
Carnajo
Not a fan of it either.

Except for my Argile, don't smoke it often (maybe once a month) but when I do, I enjoy every minute of it.

This is a very immature and unwise approach to life.

Nobody is perfect, everybody makes mistakes. We all have areas in our lives where are strong, excel and can help other people, and areas where we need to be helped.

Now, if you choose not to consider advice / critisicm / assistance offered by people who are not perfect, then you are in for a rough time on this world.

I choose to learn not only on my own, but through other people's succeses and failures - maybe you should consider whome you learn from

I just wanted to put my 2c in.

Both my parents smoke and so does my 16 year old sister. I met a girl who smokes who I now love and to be honest if I had realised how much her smoking would bother me I would not have approached her in the first place. I myself do not smoke but its not because I dont enjoy it, when I smoke I find myself in a much better state of mind and feel more relaxed and much less jittery.I can vouch for the fact that the taste is terrible. She has said she is going to try stopping while she is overseas for a month (long story on why) but unfortunately I seriously doubt she will. crying.gif
rurounikenshin
I find women who smoke a complete turn off!

My gf tried to force me into letting her take up smoking by "denying me access" so I let her take up smoking then "denied HER access for like a month"

So no longer wants to smoke.

Problem solved.
