I want to know who here has got a snake as a pet. I’m going to be starting off with a Corn snake soon and I’m looking for some advice, tips, etc. If anyone here has a young Corn snake and is interested in breeding (later on), please e-mail me and tell me the sex and age of your snake and we’ll see. I love snakes... Got myself a nice size Fish Tank... thought about possibly replacing the fish with a snake one day when they die off or when I flush them but I have another problem now... Don't think my love is going to like me having a snake in the bedroom besides the obvious one  :blush (That was there to cover me from those sick people out there who would have commented on my last sentence)

Hey don’t get me wrong, fish are cool, just a bit boring. If I want fish I just load the XP Pluspack and watch those little buggers. I mean you can’t take out a fish and play with it, but you can take out your snake and play with it.  :colgate:
Besides, the girls in our group think snakes are great.

I think we had this discussion before aCie my sweety pie  ???  There is only one snake I'm interested in  ;) and maybe one day will never happen my love. I understand boys must have their toys, but having an extra snake in the house is not my idea of fun   ???

Now, keep your heads out of the gutter, but be sure to wash your hands after handling your snake...  They, and most reptiles, can pass, I believe it is, salmonella to you...

Well aCe I got the little bugger on Friday and all in all it ripped me R500. My GeForce 4 upgrade has to wait.

My brother wanted me to give him (I hope it's a Him) a Liquor/Booze name so I named him Kenny, that way it's in honor of Kenny who keeps on dying, and the Kilkenny beer from Ireland. Except no one is going to Kill Kenny.

He's a Corn snake (brownish) about 25+ cm and still very small. Very shy. And he was really scared of me on Friday. But on Saturday I could pick him up and he wouldn't even strugle. They really get used to being handled quite quickly. Friday is going to be his first feeding in his new home. I kinda feel sory for his food, pink, so small, haven't even seen the light of day yet and then WAM, snake food. But thats the way it goes, he's on top of the food chain in his new home.

I'll try to get some pics posted, if only I could get my friends webcam to work on my system. damn thing won't work on XP and it's a noname brand so finding drivers is a real bitch.

Kenny has been killed for the last time They killed him off this week... Creators said that they cannot think of any more ways to kill the poor bugger so they have put an end to his misery once and for all... show is not going to be the same without the poor bugger in it... That aside... Must get that webcam working... Got to see a picture of that little critter... Mine is going to have to wait till/if the Mrs ever becomes comfortable with the idea... Also cleaned out the fish tank last night and after all those hours of cleaning not looking forward to flushing them so it's going to have to wait a while

I'll make a deal with you aCie...you get your snake and I will bring in some spiders just for the fun of it  :sly:

I don’t like spiders either. (I’m allergic to dogs and cats) I say if it has more than 2 legs it is not under any circumstances allowed in my room. Thus it revokes the lease of life to me and I decide weather it lives or dies.

On a lighter note, Kenny was a little “bedonderd” on Tuesday. Didn’t want to be handled, always in hiding. Yesterday I found out why. He is shedding his first skin. I whish I could bring a photo of this. The new colour is lighter than the old skin and it really looks great. Gonna see if I can get my Own Web Cam.

12 May    Still hasn't shed (problem), had to help him out a bit.
12 May    2nd Feeding, 5min after his skin was off (good sign)
17 May    3rd Feeding, sloppy killing took 18 minutes from start to finish

For now Kenny is eating pinky mice. And yes it was very interesting watching him feed. I got the web cam to work and will be adding some pics soon, plus I recorded the 3rd feeding. His first constriction. Went a little wrong, got a coil around the poor thing's neck instead of the body, so it took longer for it to die (shame) but he will improve with some time. The video I made using MS movie maker is about 29 Mb's so I can't post that. And I don't think Angel (What U think of snakes {reptiles}) will like that.  :love:  :bigsmile:

aCe, Why do you want a snake when you could have an Iguana (Just dont ask me where to get one) - Choose from a variety of colors.

Iguana's are cool ER but my cousin had one and they get out of hand... Had to have it's own room and it's own air conditioning unit

24 May    Eyes went Milky again. (He was a little bedonderd)
24 May    Gave him a mouse for his 4th feeding. (Made him even more bedonderd)
26 May    Started shedding again. Hope this goes better.
27 May    Shed more than last time.

If he isn't shed by the time I get home I'll have to help him out again. That meens putting on the heater in my room to get it nice and hot, and then soaking him in some luke warm water and then help him "out" by using a rough towel. The heater is to prevent him from getting a cold, snakes only have one functioning lung and it'll be a real pain should he get a cold.

He ate on Friday again, took a while to notice the mouse since his eyes were milky. When he got hold of it by the belly this time he started by wraping 2 coils aournd it's body. This was a clean kill. The pinky didn't scream more than twice and it was over. Still think it's a bit cruel, but hey, that's the way it goes, either he kills it or I kill it. No thanks, he can do it.

Had to help Kenny shed again. This time it went better that before.

Something is still wrong with his environment. Just can't put my finger on it. I have the temp at optimum, he has hiding places on both the hot and cold sides and in the middle. I put in another small container to raise the humidity, also added a rough rock for him to shed against and still he has trouble shedding. It isn't so bad having to help him out but still he should be able to do it himself.

Bad news, Kenny died.

Before you ask, it was a bad case of constipation. In short, Kenny was full of shit.

I know it's sad but, Shit happens. One day he was fine the next he was 85% dead. The local snake guy said that stuff like this can happen. So now I don't have a snake to play with anymore.

But I'll get another one soon

Not sure yet. In this shit town I live in I'll be lucky to get another one.
But hey, I got the tank, sand, stuff and heat pad so the snake won't be as much as I initially forked out. I'll wager it'll be in the range of about R250 -R300 for a new one...

Or I can dig up some rocks and hope for the best.

My Buddy just got a Silver Corn (albino), Beautiful creature.
I might buy a partner for his snake. So we can breed them, Hell they sell for about R800, but if you see this snake you'll love it.
