We're trying to fight the power. MultiChoice obviously know/care nothing about their clients, and a lot of people are sick to death of it. However, we need quite a bit of help...

If you're as pissed as everybody else is about their blatant disregard for sci-fi junkies, and their complete lack of customer relations, they way they shut their clients down, the basta... Ok, I'm getting angry again.

Seriously, if you want to be part of this movement, leave your mark on this forum, or visit our site and leave a comment there or mail me.

VIVA !!!

Damn Sci-Fi was the only channel worth watching... hmmm save perhaps Ftv... whistling.gif

Ja, most unhappy with them for just ripping it off.
Even~Flow
Apart from the recent Star Trek spam on Sci-Fi I also enjot watching it, now we end up paying the same price for less product. thumbdown.gif

I gotta ask you guys, whats on Sci Fi worth watching?

I still have it here in the UK, and its just crappy sci-fi produced movies, reruns of quantom leap and star trek (WHich lets admit it, sucks in all its incarnations) and the occasional late night anime about some crazy idiot woman who screams constantly and wants to eat her dog. I can't seem to find MST3K anywhere, which was probably the only good thing on Sci-Fi, which I probably couldn't watch anyway because of deep-seated persoanl issues I have left lying around from ages back when I actually still watched the show.
Juju
WHAT?! do you mean there were other channels except #39 available? wink.gif

I think it's pretty crap that they decided to drop the channel, how do they figure how many ppl watch it in any how?
aquadog
its got nothing to do with how many people watch it. I heard somewhere that the reason they are dropping it is cos they can't fit enough advertising onto it, which is bullshit, cos there's more than enough already.

Regardless, i think the reason they want to take it off is to make room for another bullshit channel. Each time new channels get added, the monthly price of a DSTV subscription goes up, whether you watch the new channels or not. I think people bitched about this and they figure this is the only way to add new channels without having to increase the price(which they are gonna do anyways).

I can't see wtf removing a channel has to do with anything "economically viable".
capn
its not all bad guys, action tv is still on biggrin.gif

What I've always found silly on DStv is their propensity for advertising a channel that you're busy watching. Yes, thank you, I know I'm watching the Sci-Fi channel.

Quantum Leap re-runs are quite awful, agreed, and should've been taken off in favour of something new or at least something better. Unfortunately that seems to be the "new" thing -- to just show re-runs of some or other tired old show (Friends, for instance) that no-one would really want to watch more than once anyway.

I agree with aquadog's sentiments as well in that the removal of the Sci-Fi channel will be nothing more than just another money-making scheme for MultiChoice. That's why I'll never get DStv myself, I'll just carry on leaching it from friends. smile.gif
noosh
I would be really pissed off if they removed a channel that I watched alot! Fortunately I did not watch Sci-Fi as I found most of the shows pretty kak but that is my opinion and I am sure some of you would think the shows I watch are pretty kak.

Why don't you guys start a petition on petition online, but make it professional otherwise they will not take you seriously.

Well I think that is the only help I can offer.
CC
It's a shame that they're taking it off. It won't affect my life drastically, however I'll miss watching the odd episode of Star Trek in the afternoons when nothing better is on.
aman
Although i didn't watch it very often, Sci_fi was one of the better ones.... geez, there's Reality-TV... Sci-Fi is defintely better than that.

Yet another way we being ripped-off....i'm surprised the sci-fi junkies haven't taken Multichoice to task about this.... and i didn't hear anything about a reduction in the subscription cost !

A few days ago I saw an advert for a new African movie channel.

END!

Hope you're kidding because if we wanted that crap we would just stick with SABC

Channel 102 I think... Have a look.
aquadog
there has to be a way to boycott these motherf*ckers.

well, i was considering getting dstv in the next few months or so, but with no sci-fi channel, i'm not even going to consider it any more. so i guess that counts as a boycott? tongue.gif

Nice reaction. Good people. I take it that if I'm planning a suprise 'torch and pitchfork' party for our friends at NoChoice, I should let you all know.

I'm adding you all to the list, unless anyone disagrees.

Rock on.
aquadog
hey im all up for it. It's about time that we make a stand against this blatant disregard of people's right to choose what they want.
demon
yeah count me in. I want more porn.
PhyberOptik
I never really watched the Sci-Fi channel, even though I'm a Fan, history and discovery channel (and watching titty on FTV) is more my thing, though I am saddened that capitalism killed a great channel.

Why the fuck don't they axe the goddamn religious channels, instead? Or travel TV, or fucking Bloomberg and the goddamn parlementary service. Jeez...come to think of it there's plenty of crap they can axe instead.
D'ave
There are so many channels that I cannot, in my moderate wisdom, find a use for at all. Have you ever flipped accedentally to the parliament channel? What the fuck, I ask with tears in my eyes?!

Even stuff like Rhema (shudder) has uses, and people do actually watch it. Fashion TV is fun for about two nipple shots (that's around a minute), I can't watch Cartoon Network too much, because I detest early Hanna Barbera cartoons (Flintstones, Scooby Doo, Wacky Races), Movie Magic shows things I've generally seen... and I can go on.

But they axe Sci-Fi, with not so much as a 'does anyone mind', and they still won't give us a straight answer as to why. 'Not economically viable', they say. 'Bastards', I say.

And it's even worse because there's not a whole heap we can do about it. That's why we're trying to get everyone together in one big mob, and show them that they still have to look after their customers.

One woman mailed me about how in England (I think, I might be a little off) they actually fought for a channel to be but back on, and they won because it was found that the pulling of the channel was 'unconstitutional'. There's hope.

What am I paying for now? The odd movie, dodgy adult stuff on the weekend, Super Rock once a week on MTV, and sometimes Go and Action X. Is that realy worth R380 a month?

And what happend when they remove something else, and replace it with Big Brother 9 or something. It's time to stand up and give them the finger. Either give me what I bought, of give me my money back.
capn
get over it pansies, they show sci fi programming on action x now so you can get your star trek fix there, i do.

sci fi was crap in all honesty. i only ever used to watch it for quanum leap, lexx, and star trek and the occasional anime. most of the shows really sucked. except planet mirth, but they took that off about 3 years ago, and mindfuck which also disappeared.
Simon
mindfook > all
aquadog
still doesnt mean they had to remove the channel

that's more good shows than most of the other stupid channels.

NoChoice.... i like that... i like that a lot... how about somebody register www.nochoice.co.za a la www.mywirelesssucks.co.za? i'm sure that'll get their attention?

a stand needs to be taken !

I agree with dawg. See what actually pisses me off so much, is that they are taking something away. Its the idea of paying more for less that doesn't sit too well with me. Heck, i don't really watch the channel all that much, but its all about choice, isn't it?

Yeah, in France actually, when the petrol price goes up by a rediculous margin (like the recent one in SA), the truck drivers will hold protests and shit, until the government does something about the issue.

Here in SA, were complain and complain and complain, and still do fuck-all in terms of actually DOING something, which is why the consumer aways gets screwed over in the end!

I don't have DSTV, and am not planning on getting it anytime soon (leeching from others does save me some much needed money tongue.gif), but I will help out online where I can (won't help out in real life, cause I won't benefit too much tongue.gif).

I hope that you will emmigrate to the USA soon. You will fit in so nicely over there...

I am already missing sci-fi. I know that most of the stuff was old but some of it was not dated. I could skip on Quantum leap and the original Star Wars.
capn
Give ActionX's new sci-fi inclusive broadcast a chance. Most sci-fi nerds enjoy b-list action movies too, so its the perfect match.

I mean, what more can you ask from a channel than to show you an hour of Star Trek followed by the gripping 2001 film Anthrax starring Cameron Daddo, Allison Hossack, and the familiar face of David Keith. This is what TV was meant for, and I'm not even being sarcastic.
party boy
dstv pisses me off so much, out of all the companies in the world, this has to be the biggest bunch of horse fukcers ever! there is nothing on TV, what do i watch? Superrock, South Park (when it starts again in november), Rugby and a few movies @ R380pm, crazy. I would love to see a channel like Kerrang or mtv2, im sure I cant be the only one who enjoys the type of music they play? and scifi needs to be put back! The sad thing is DStv wont listen, I tried starting a website to get Kerrang on Dstv, but DStv sent me warnings etc and now im not allowed to give out the address anymore!!! Lets go burn their offices down and kill everyone that works there!
party boy
btw anyone who wants to see Kerrang or mtv2 can call me or sms at 072 935 9258, this is not my personal number, its just a spare fone that im using to collect information, if u sms ur name and smartcard number i can fax it to DStv, I have a list and its growing so plz support me, thanx biggrin.gif
Arcane_Mage
yes those channels will really rule . why dont we Get a really big stick and shove it up the director of nochoise's arse i mean Sci Fi was the sole perpose to get DsTv and the damn hippies go and take it away !!!!!
nav123
It's companies like multichoice that force law abiding citizens to download the latest Star Trek Enterprise (Season 3).
Phreek
I'm also pissed off they axed Sci Fi! Add me to the petition list as well!

I must agree about the ridiculous advertising they had on the channel. Of course its not going to be economically viable if you spend 80% of your valuable airtime advertising the channel already being watched. Why not sell those time-slots, and thereby make the channel economically viable.

It doesn't take a genius to figure that out...
larch
*Ack* look i dont have anything against Sci-fi but there endless reruns of anime series and bad trialers and adverts for upcomeing series/movies where horrible.

Considering that there is a section in cartoon network called "Adult Swim" where they show anime series like trigun, dbz and cowboy bebop.

But then again the American just got a anime Channel that broadcast`s anime 24/7 drool.gif
