I think telkom are trying to take over the world. first of all, they charge huge call rates like they're saving up to build a huge plasma gun, second i was walking down the street the other day (yes, outside, IN THE SUN) when i see a telkom "bakkie" drive past. so i think it's nothing because they're always driving around (who knows what for). then like 1 min later along comes another one. and so on. in 5 mins i saw about6 vans on the same road!!! WTF. are they going to some top secret phone meeting to join forces with microsoft and take over the world, and make everyone pay ridiculous fees for calls until we all bleed to death!!! Mhwuahahahaha. Sorry got carried away offtopic.gif

I read somewhere that they are going to be charhged 3.6Bn rand which is 10% of their earnings for the 2003 financial your... which means that they earn R360 000 000 000 per year... thats a SH*T load of money...

do the math

Theyre a business, they're in it to make money and to expand across the globe, possibly. Obviously they want to take over the world... the economic world. One day if you own your business are you telling me you're going to make your shit cheap just because people want it that way? You push your luck until you cant push any more. End of story. Now get over it.

It's not 10% of their earnings but of turnover, and their turnover is R36 billion not R360 billion.

ha. My fone was once so crackly, that when i foned telkom, I couldn't even hear the guy, and he could hardly hear me, and the first thing he asks is "so what seems to be the problem?" ermm.gif So then I explain it to him very simply (as if to a child), and he said, "alrite, I'm just going to test the line" - so i agreed, there is a 'click' and i get dial tone (well, really REALLY CRACKLY dial tone). That's great - so I fone up again, wait for about 15minutes while they repeat "morning is Broken" that sounds as if it is played of of a 386 PC speaker, and finally i get thru to another operator - he is just as intelligent as the other one, and asks "what is the problem" - so i tell him, and he said "sorry, I can't here you over the crackle - what did you say the problem was again?!" crying.gif

He also decides to test the line, and the same thing happens: dialtone. So finally I fone up for a third time - wait another ten minutes, and speak to an operator, explaining the problem and PLEADING him not to test the line, because of what will happen.. so what does he do? you guessed it... DIALTONE.

Finally i decided enough was enough, my fone and all the fones up our cul-de-sac had been out for 2 weeks, and I hadn't been able to make a single call. I called them up over my cell phone, and basically turned the operator I finally spoke to into a whimpering pile of flesh on the floor, before speaking to the so-called 'manager' demanding that I get a refund/credit on my line rental, and that I am reimbursed however much money this Cellular Phone call is bound to cost. He basically refused, which is seriously unreasonable, I mean WHAT AM I PAYING FOR IF I CAN"T USE THE FONE?!

So now it is about 16.35, and he speaks to one of the operators, and puts me back to the operator, who tells me that the service technician has already been to my house and fixed the problem. I said, no he hasn't i've been here all day. The operator told me that the technician reported in at 16.20 - i told him that there is no way that he did, because he wouldn't have been able to get through the gates without my knowledge... and the OPERATOR ARGUED with me, saying that he did come? How the HELL does he know?

Finally, I get them to send technicians down - they will be there within 2 days, and the problem will be sorted.

Well the technicians did come, and they found that the problem lies in the box on the telephone poll between my neighbour's houses (both of whom work all day). So the telkom trucks arrive at aroudn midday, and wait for the owners to get home, so that they can get into the properties - then 17h00 comes, and they knock-off. at about 17.30-18.00 the neighbours arrive home - and this goes on for about 6 days. I mean are they that simple, that they do not realise that if the owners of that house ALSO work, they will only be home after 5?! So the techs basically got a week off work, because they sat around in the shade doing nothing.

It makes me so... fed up telkom does... and vodacom, and Mtn and flippin Cell C.

Last year I stayed in Belfast for 2 weeks - and I bought myself an O2 starter pack. Within 20minutes of sticking the sim card INTO my phone, I was called by an O2 representative. They activated my account, and asked what I would primarily be using this O2 account for - I told them that I would be mostly making use of international smsing. The rep asked me a few questions etc, and then told me that they would adjust my account so that I pay 1.5p for every intl (or local) sms.

That is the equivalent of 15c - half the price we pay for a local, off-peak sms, ant 10% of the price we pay for an intl. sms.

This telkom monopoly, and this Vodacom/MTN/Cell C Oligopoly has GOT TO STOP. Did you know that our Cell providers have an agreement NOT to compete on PRICE - only on services?

...It makes me feel physically ill when I think about the state of our telecommunications in this country.

Im sick of telkoms bullshit, I cant actually take it anymore. My internet line is so messed up that it takes me about 30 minutes to connect to the internet. My telephone bill is so high now my mom is taking it out my bank account, grr! Telkom have been here a couple of times and guess what they did the one time...they swapped the lines around so one night I connected on it without Infinite call from 7pm to 7am with the wonderful connection that was working so well which got fixed. When we get the telephone bill that call was a shit load of money *grrr* Telkom were supposed to come on Monday but they never came, who knows when they will arrive, otherwise if they dont i'll be bankrupt cuz my mom will be paying the extra R100's with my money!!!!

LOL G-Force, what you gonna do about it? Im sure the other operator has better service, wait, there isnt one :/ Call technical support and they will fix it, in fact no, they wont...

I must be the only one here, but I have excellent service from Telkom when it comes to my ADSL line. I am being serious, they installed it ahead of schedule, always show up to repair the day that I phone or the day after.

I rawk, maybe thats why.
Jow
never had any issues with telkom either. loudhoward, maybe we just live in the right neighbourhood...
RaPTuRe
Hmfph - I think that the chances are actually quite high that you are the only two. Well, as far as I can tell anyway.

One day Telkom just switched off infinitcall on the second line - because they decided that it was being used as a business phone (i.e. not allowed infinitcall) - nice 'business fone' that is only, I mean ONLY used after 7 at nite. Whatever - got the fright of my life when that bill came in. Luckilly after I took a poo on their desk they gave me credit on my next account - also rare to RECEIVE anything from telkom (other than bills that is).

...anyone got any C4 handy? No, no reason.
lord_moron
We recently tried to get a business ADSL connection at work.
So we phone up telkom takes half a day to get hold of someone
that can help and we order a ADSL connecton. Two weeks later
we phone to check up on the progress and they have no track
of the reference numbers that were given to us or the operator
that helped us the first time arround but the current operator
notices that we have order an extra ISDN line two weeks earlier
Hmm... so half a day later the extra ISDN line is cancelled and
the business ADSL line is ordered. Two weeks after that phone
them up again to get progress out of them and they tell us
Eeesh sorry there is no ADSL coverage in your area.
AAAAARRRRRGGGG!!!
Milano
Had an ADSL problem the other day, and as much as I hate to admit it, Telkom phoned me back four times in two days to make sure the problem was resolved.

Still doesn't change the fact that Telkom's ADSL charges are a rip-off, the cap is a con and them telling us what we can and can't use ADSL for is BS.
Apoc
Seems that some areas are more jacked up than others. We have great field techies except for a few "affirmative action" ones. The problem lies with the Call Centre Operators, that cant tell left from right and are probably reading a megazine before you disrupted him/usualy her. Our line quality? KAK! Depending, I have like 15 line drops in an hour! Luckily I dont have R8 call! The reason we get such good service, when we do actually call on telkoms service is becuase, for lack of better words, my mom is a life sucking hanus bitch with mouth that has the power of an uncontrolled nuclear chain reaction - if you get on her wrong side. She even has "the managers" cell phone number!
CC
Im now using ISDN. Before I moved from 56k to my current line I had a problem almost everytime there was a storm. The support people practically knew me by name! I pressured them to get their asses in gear and repair my line the quickest they could, and with that pressure they managed to do so. Now since my ISDN line has been installed I have had nothing to complain about.

There are three things that peeve me about Telkom. 1) Their attitude at how they are the best and never listening to their customers. 2) Holy crap but their prices are through the roof!!!!! 3) Poor ADSL users with their cap and prioritized bandwidth.

It is R7.50 excluding VAT. R7.50 + 14% = R8.55

Maybe its R90 because you have to pay an infinitcall subscription fee too? Infinitcall is +-R50 if I'm not mistaken.
Fishfly
Yeah the R7 thingy is now called infinite call and it's about R8,50 vat included excluding rental which is R62...

So like B2$%@ of telkom raking in so much more moonie from us!

I have had my share of probs but in general they give good service. I mean one techie even came at around 8:00 pm to sort out an ADSL problem i had. now thats service. Would any of you go and see a client at 8 at night for the kicks or if you are ask to?? i think not. ( im no telkom ass kisser im stating the facts )

One thing though is they drive like crap like they own the road or summin. I have had nightmares in which these Eastern Cape number plated hooligans ram into my car forcing it off the road as if they own the goddam place!!!!!
AngelatHeart
I worked for a Big ISP (not saying who) but our main focus is Corporate Companies but I deal with most of the smaller guys SME's and guys who runs business from home and so forth. And the same issue always comes up...they cancel their services with us because we are abit more expensive and go to Telkom because they are obviously cheaper

BUT I tell you they always come back because Telkom has no customer services skills, the billing is a nightmare and their is no support. The customers come running back because our call centre is up and running 24x7, the account manager gets a call from the call centre to let you know the customer has a problem (etc line down) so you can get involved. And I sound like I marketing but we battle Telkom everyday because we need them to install lines but also because they are trying to get into the ISP market areas which they have no clue about and trying to become the "ultimate monopoly".

Its all about service, if you want better service, you are going to have to pay more for a better service and in the end you will have less headaches.

I'm under correction but being on the inside now has given me a different perception of the whole Internet/Access world! biggrin.gif

telkom can suck my ass
every month since the begining of the year, i've had to call to report the same fault - noise on my line and no dial tone at times
so after the most recent complaint, the guy came over on sunday and 'fixed' it.
monday night, no dial tone
wtf, are these people idiots or something?

so i had to phone back, speak to a supervisor, and tell them to please stop sending the fucking morons that they have been sending so far because all they do is find a 'clean' line and swap my line onto that... i want them to actually figure out wtf the problem is. so someone came on wednesday afternoon, and it seems fine so far, but who knows how long that will last :/

Friend of mine works for telkom, & he reckons there'll be a company in SA as early as next year... calls & stuff won't be cheaper right away cos telkom have got all the infrastructure in this country and the new company will either have to leech off of telkom for a while, or will have to lay lines etc for themselves. thumbdown.gif we're gettin there tho...

i agree telkom must die!!!... or just bring down there prices

cause this site http://hellkom.co.za has confirmed my fears

if most of sa does not have broadband within the next 2-3 years, were a scr#$@#d country. cause its gonna be a very viable industry in the future... the net that is.

what an awesome site!

i agree... telkom must die and burn in hell:death: ... the only reason they get away with such high prices is cos there is no competition... can't wait til its here...

In the other thread, guys said nothing came from the interview. What are you on about? Anything that they missed that you can tell us about Killer?

Telkom answered every question, but the answers where dum and they denied everything. Also said some crap about competitive prices, in their dreams.
killerkevin
Well, everything was anti-telkom and nothing was pro-telkom and they did give shit answers. At least a lot of people know a lot more about telkom than before! smile.gif i wish i could club that CEO to death!

the telkom management/executives they had on carte blanche seemed like retards who know fuckall about the telecoms industry, and even issues within their own company. guess its becoming a more occurance sight these days...

My dad works for telkom and even I have deep seeded hate for those thieving bastards.
I'm just so sick and tired of slow connection speeds and being disconnected that I just dunno what to do anymore.
Even infinite call is a bloody con.
We have to squash loads of cash through our asses to pay for net access while that prick CEO (Sizwe Nxazana) gets a huge bonus at the end of every year.
Damn it all!

U think ur dad is a thieving bastard?

Telkom is ghey!

Do they even understand the concept?
