International star status - this is Heinz Winckler's next goal.
The former Idol is one step closer to his goal after releasing his hit song, Next stop happiness, in Germany.
This follows after Winckler ended fourth in the World Idol competition at the beginning of the year.
He says it will be a while before they know how good or bad the song is doing in Germany. "We've sent it to various radio stations and it will be a while before it appears on their play lists. We will only have an indication of the popularity of the song afterwards."
A CD with this song and the one he sang for the Disney production Treasure Planet, called Chasing Shadows, will be released in Germany next month.
"Success in Germany can easily extend to other countries such as Austria and Switzerland. We are very excited about this new direction of my career."
His new album will be released in Germany in April. Winckler may perhaps go back to his Germanic roots to market his album, but a decision hasn't been made yet.
Winckler's friendship with the German Idol, Alexander Klaws and the fact that his agency, BMG has offices in Germany, are reasons for his move to the German market.
"Alexander was in South Africa recently to film a music video in the Cedarberg. He enjoyed every moment and was very keen to buy the house in Camps Bay he and his production team stayed in.
Winckler says his German name will help tremendously in the German market.
He says it's also possible that he may sell more CD's in Germany than South Africa because the market is so much bigger.
