Project Landy

Well, I have been VERY quite on this BB lately, but that doesn't mean I haven't been working hard

Eventually once I am done re-sizing the images I'll be taking you through a step by step strip down and rebuild of a 1965 Land Rover Series IIA.

We were making steady progress until we found that the existing chassis of our vehicle was a write off. 6 weeks later, we now have a new chassis.

We bought the chassis from a 109 Defender and had it cut down to our required size (88"). As I type this the chassis is sitting in the garage ready for the work to begin.

We've mostly stripped the body work off the old vehicle, we now need to remove the existing engine, gearbox and transfer case, along with both differentials and all the driveshafts and running gear.

I will include more detail once the pics are up.
It's really been a mixture of fun and hardwork.

We are basically going to be creating a brand new(ish) vehicle on the new chassis.

We are building this vehicle to be a general run around for my GF's game farm in the Eastern Cape.

I am off home now.

But will resize the best photo's I have during the course of this week and will steadily post them up for those interested.

Project Polo

So here she is, in stock form - my 2004 Black Magic Polo 1.4i.

Features:

2 x Airbags.
Power Steering.
Central locking.
Adjustable headlights (3 different positions).
Aircon.
ABS.
All round disc brakes (vented in front, solids in rear).
14" Alloys (Stock)

Now I have bought a set of 16" Golf 4 GTi rims, they need a slight refurb and tyres.
I might be customising them to match the color of my car with a polished lip to off set all the black. I need to do some photo-shopping.
I've attached a pic o the rims for those interested.

I need to do some research to see if the 16' rims will affect my power steering (and there fore the attached warranty), I know that the TDi's in this range had 16's but the tyre profiles were different.

I believe these rims will see me running low profile tyres (haven't yet found out the correct/recommended tyre specs).

Will update this thread again after I've done the relevant reading.

I am also now looking for a set of TDi spots and lower grille plates for the spots. If I can, I'll take the wiring harness aswell. Might aswell use all the correct kit no?

I've also skimmed a guide on how to change the 3mm Red alarm LED to a 3mm Blue LED.
Will have another look at it a bit later today.

Nail your Dream Job in 5 Steps

Little time to prepare? – No problem; we’ve done the research for you.
Pursuing your dream job is a big step, so get the ultimate start by using these best practices for success.

1. Attitude - When was the last time you heard that someone negative actually had something work out well for them? Have a positive attitude and nothing will stand between you and your dream job. If interviews make you nervous, remember you are not the only one in the ‘hot seat’ – you are interviewing the company as well!

Be persistent and do not give up, there is no failure than that of not trying.

2. Resume – It is paramount that your resume be up-to-date and reader friendly (meaning well-spaced, formatted with bold headings and clear, short points). Highlight and prioritize pertinent experience and credits. Employers do not have time to ‘search’ your resume for relevant information.
Next, take time to tailor your resume and cover letter to the position you are applying for – doing so shows initiative and that you researched the role and matched your skills and experience to it. This is also a good chance for some reflection - to double check that the role would be a good fit for you, before moving forward.

3. The Company – Be sure to arm yourself with the best tools available. Research the company you are applying to: its origin, when it was established and major clients - Wikipedia can be a great resource for this. We are extremely fortunate to have such information at our fingertips and should take advantage of it. Ignore the bad press that you read, as there is bound to be some, just keep an open mind. Showing knowledge of current issues involving the company (whilst staying away from controversial topics) will say a lot about you.

4. Interview Psychology - It is important to present yourself in the way that you would like your prospective employer to see you: organized, sincere and capable. Before the interview, make sure you have: at least two crisp copies of your resume; business cards and; any references you’d like to share.
Practice a firm and assured handshake. Be polite, smile and make eye contact. This can be challenging for many – bear in mind that between 3 and 5 seconds is an acceptable length of time for professional eye contact. It is important to engage and really interact with the person who is speaking to you, also where possible try to draw on your own experiences during your interview.

Interestingly enough, research has shown that it is acceptable to glance at your hands, your lap or any materials (resume or references) that may be the subject of discussion–balance is the key, just don’t overdo it!
Lastly, never underestimate the impact of simple gestures: arriving on time, dressing appropriately (dark colors make the best first impressions) and addressing your interviewer by name and paying attention to your posture – no slouching!

5. And last but certainly not least…Breathe! Be calm in the knowledge that you have prepared and made your best impression, now sit back and relax.

JID MGMT.

I love Paul McCartney!

Hey ya'll! I'm an intern over at UMGD and I just found out that Paul McCartney is releasing a 3-disc cd/dvd standard edition and a 4-disc deluxe version with a bonus dvd of his live performance “Good Evening New York City!” As far as I can tell, McCartney has been a a rock inspiration to many other artists and will forever be a legend in my eyes. After everything with The Beatles, the tragic death of some of those members and even the personal battles we don’t know about, Paul McCartney’s music is reaching a status that is sure to continue to leave a profound historical mark on music worldwide. The man seems unstoppable! I unfortunately wasn’t able to attend the show in New York, but there is no way that I’m going to miss out on this combo phenomenon! I just ordered my copy today.

This word will then be used for the following Acronym.

So here goes. Give your sentence and then put down your new word for the next guy to work out. Please try and make a legible sentance out of the word though.....

First word.....

ANSWERS - (Make up your sentence here)

The Drinking Games Thread

Post all your favourite drinking games in here! Here's one to get started:

Three Man

This is played with as many people as you can gather, and two dice. Each person rolls a die until someone gets a three; that person is now the 'Three Man' (or 'Three Person' if you wanna be PC). You then go around the circle taking turns to roll the dice, and different things happen depending on what you roll:

When the dice total.....

...3: 'Three Man' must drink. If 'Three Man' rolls this then he may pass the title to a person of his choosing
...7: Person to the right of 'roller' drinks
...9: Person across from 'roller' drinks
...10: Social! Everyone drinks!
...11: Person to the left of 'roller' drinks

If you're all still fairly sober you can include these other dice combinations (leave them out if you're too wasted though, they can get confusing):

...4 & 1: Whoever rolls this becomes the 'Master Of Thumbs'. They can place their thumb on the table whenever they want. The last person to do this must drink. The Master Of Thumbs can only change when someone else rolls a 4 & 1.

...Doubles: When someone rolls double they give the dice to someone of their choosing. This person rolls the dice and must drink for that many seconds. The dice may be given to two people instead of giving both to just one person.

Have fun!

The new cars are as ugly as shit. If you were not really familiar with all the regulation changes, you would be forgiven for thinking that you were watching old school cars on track.

Seems to have worked though, as Brawn GP hit a one/two as a debutant team, although I do question Barichello's move that caused some chaos at the start of the race. Still, well done to Brawn GP, which is a team that at one stage didn't seem as though it would make it.

The qualifying was also interesting, with positions changing more times than a prostitute's customers.

The rule/regulation changes may be good in terms of the smaller teams not lagging at the back of the field all the time, but goodness, those cars are fugly.
