Do the following:
1.) Fit a lower front strut brace. To improve handling. 2.) Fit a performance air filter (BMC or Simota) to the STANDARD air box, do NOT waste your time and money with a cone filter, they are utter rubbish. 3.) Remove the trumpets (upper and lower) from the standard airbox. Next: Find an old CTi and remove the rear Anti-roll bar from the rear axle, keep all the bolts and clips etc, fit the ARB to your rear axle. It's a simple enough job, takes about 30 minutes. LOL hows about this, you can sell your Velo and buy my Citi 1.8i Ltd edition in December... Interested?
Then you needn't do any mod, it came from VW standard with a 272 cam, Bro speed branch and freeflow, front lower strut brace and the interior has leather trim. You could always de-trumpet the airbox too. Me wants to replace with a Rotary in January/February (RX8 WOOT!!!!!!!!!!! |

No thankz, would rather take my 1.4i and modify it and kick a 1.8iR's ass, seen as though it's only a 1.6i that's been modified. LOL

QUOTE Find an old CTi and remove the rear Anti-roll bar from the rear axle, keep all the bolts and clips etc, fit the ARB to your rear axle. It's a simple enough job, takes about 30 minutes. Trust me mate, this mod to the rear axle will drastically improve the overall handling of your car. Well worth the effort. LOL Incorrect, the .:R line runs a 1798cc motor - for all intents and purposes... an 1800. |

LOL hahaha seems like a lot of people actually think this, i set the record straight for quite a few 1.6i's (with their usual branch f/f airfilter mods) in durbs this december, shoulda seen the look on their faces Durbs okes like to race for some reason, i think they try to blind the other driver with their chromed 18" rims.... Ruro i understand that balancing your bottom end gives you a smoother idle. VW balances to around 7g and most aftermarket balancers balance to 0.1g, does this give a performance boost at all? |

Properly balanced motors can see performance increases, I am not sure how much though.
I guess it would vary from motor to motor. You 1.8i should be pretty much perfect from what I've been told about that motor. I spent something like 6/7k having my Honda's motor blueprinted and balanced - I honestly didn't noticed all that much difference. The fuel economy and idling was a bit better. Although, to be fair, Honda motors are pretty much blueprinted out of the factory so maybe that's why? Have you considered a gasflow and maybe a slightly larger cam? |

yeah i thought about that, and i dont wanna move the torque curve with a larger cam. gas flow is in the pipeline i'm going to phone SAREL today and find out what the cost is going to be. i'll post it up here so corksrcewvelo can get an idea of the cost too. I'm seriously not sure what to do with this car. it seems i can only get seriously more power if i'm willing to change the head to 16v or bore to 2lt which means resale value out the window.
Also how long do plan to keep this car is another issue i have. sorry to hi jack your thread corksrcew... |

HI Nitro, i understand what your saying, but my point is this. At the moment my 1.4i kicks out 80kw on the fly.
And it only cost me R8000, i'm getting my head done, cost me R4500. Then my car kicks out 92kw. My point is this, robot to robot you won't catch me with the 1.8i. My stroke is shorter and my car acc faster. And i've got a 1.4i that costs R89800 new and i am spending R12500. So my car costs R102300 and makes 92kw, where your car cost R116000 and makes 90kw. And remember it comes out with a 276 cam not a 272, and branch and freeflow, mine doesn't. Power wise the 1.8i makes the power of a slightly modded 1.6i. I know a guy who has a 1.6i citi that makes 107kw. See my point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No thankz, would rather take my 1.4i and modify it and kick a 1.8iR's ass, seen as though it's only a 1.6i that's been modified. only saw your response now.
the 1.8i costs R108K has a 272 cam (confirmed by VW and Sarel from 8v performance in jhb who has done gas flow jobs on these motors), head has slightly bigger valves from what i've heard although unconfirmed by VW, bro speed 48mm f/f and bro speed branch. My car dyno'd 94hp ATW at KAR in jhb (a reputable dyno and my power is around what the R's and other 1.8i's make in jhb) without even a detrumpet, do the maths thats 102kw ATF Max auto wheel to Flywheel converter. you also forget that the suspension setup is different to yours, tyres are better and the brakes have been slightly upgraded on the 1.8i. Was your car dyno'd at SAC by any odd chance? |

No stock 1.6i Citi will make 107KW, Fact.
Unless you're using SAC's dyno, which is hardly a reliable dyno as they adjust it to increase output figures. |
