What do you guys think of having a V9 Raffle? We wanted to have another Post-A-Thon or even a Newbie Competition, but finding funds for prizes is difficult. Thus, we're considering running a raffle where our members can buy a ticket and win some cool stuff. It could work something like this: 1) Buy a ticket (through a PayPal payment or online deposit) 2) We get the best prize we can with the cash 3) Winner is drawn and receives prize Yes? No? Dust? Depending on entries received the winner could score anything from a mousepad to a video card. This will be supplied from one of our dealers, but we can provide more info later depending on interest. So what you guys think? Please justify your vote and give us some feedback as to how we could pull this off! -------------------- |

Given the fact that I find this place to be a second home, I am willing to donate some cash towards a prize, if of course other people are willing to enter a raffle.

Yeah i could go for this. Sounds like a good idea
But how will people who are overseas collect a prize if they win something? QUOTE or even a Newbie Competition, but finding funds for prizes is difficult. I reckon M.mm should see that. My 2c is that jus run the competition and even if there aren't any prizes, no matter. Its still better than nothing |

We could always keep some funds aside for international shipping. We could then carry it over to the next competition or put it towards hosting if it's not used.
We've bounced the idea of a Newbie Competition around before but there's not much incentive to participate if there's no reward. Perhaps run the raffle and keep some cash aside for a Newbie Competition or a Post-A-Thon? |

I think it needs the reward, otherwise it's business as usual. I'm in for a raffle though.

QUOTE We've bounced the idea of a Newbie Competition around before but there's not much incentive to participate if there's no reward. Why a competition, just put up a poll and nominate people for the Best Newbie Award. I wouldn't think a prize is required (its not like the post a thon - its evaluating what you have done, not what you are going to do). It does not need to be a large amount at all - if a price is necessaryQUOTE We could always keep some funds aside for international shipping. We could then carry it over to the next competition or put it towards hosting if it's not used. so i assume prizes are small, say a cd or something |

But what does being the Best Newbie get you? As RevQ said, if there's no incentive it's unlikely people will participate. Also, we want to drive people to sign up here, not just get the current members to post more.
Prizes would probably be a voucher or a piece of hardware, depending on member participation. Vouchers are nice and easy since we can just dish out a voucher number to the winner, regardless of location. |

Sounds cool! Even though i have never been lucky with raffles
For the newbie idea - its off topic here. So perhaps a new thread could be made for it QUOTE But what does being the Best Newbie get you? As RevQ said, if there's no incentive it's unlikely people will participate. Also, we want to drive people to sign up here, not just get the current members to post more. You got me there. For me the distinction of being awarded anything would be enough, but i reckon that for others it wouldn't count as much. I would love to see it go ahead, but for now thats all i got to say EDIT: Sorry - can this be merged with my post above -------------------- The third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority.

QUOTE Vouchers are nice and easy since we can just dish out a voucher number to the winner, regardless of location. You of course have to consider what that voucher is for. Not much use if it is for example for a RSA store and the winner isn't in SA, or even not in the same city. E-Vouchers for online retailers would be ideal though |

So perhaps a new thread could be made for it EDIT: Sorry - can this be merged with my post above Merged. I can post the rough version of the Newbie Competition for some feedback, but without a reward I doubt it'll go very far. E-Vouchers for online retailers would be ideal though Yup, as with previous Post-A-Thons we'll award a voucher for an online retailer. The last two were for $100 at ThinkGeek, quite a nice prize. |
