So, I just figured out I have a Trojan on my flash disk. Is there any way to get rid of it? Or will I have to just throw the flash disk away? -------------------- |

Just plug it in; press the windows key and "e" (explorer) and right click on it then say format.
But; most likely its intention is to spread onto your computer - so beware.. if its still on your machine it will just keep going back (as thats obviously how it gets onto flash drives) AV software is the best - free online one google "trend housecall" -------------------- |

Actually you do not need to format the usb disk. There are software out there to specifically scan your usb disk when it is inserted into the usb port. One such software that I use is called "USB Disk Security", and it is doing an excellent job at keeping nasties at bay. Using the autorun of the usb disk, most viruses are able to spread to PC's and this software disables the autorun feature and scans everytime the usb disk gets plugged into the usb port.
Hope that's helpfull. Download link: USB Disk Security |

Since there are so many flash-drive knowledgeable people here, I have a riddle for you.
We all got a flashdrive from our company, but when you insert it, it opens up a webpage with some article about our products... nice. It seems that when you insert it, it mounts a CD-Rom drive which autoruns the link. I have deleted all the files on the flashdrive, and still it happens, so its most likely in the firmware. Any idea how to kill this "virus"? |

How sure are you that you deleted hidden files?
You can stick it into a clean PC before booting up (this nullifies autorun when the volume is mounted) and do a cleanup. |

ninja pendisk, NINJA PENDISK!!
Its an awesome little app that will deletes the autorun file and replaces it with a safe version, hence stopping any viruses or trojans that would spread once the flash is plugged in -------------------- |

I like to format my flash drives using NTFS (you have to disable "Optimize for fast removal" (iirc) in your sys properties though), then create a dummy autorun.ini, and remove permissions for it. That very effectively "innoculates" the flash drive from becoming a virus delivery vehicle when you stick in into a foreign PC. It could still get infected, but it won't be able to infect any other PC you stick it in after.
