Today i went to the High Court in Cape Town to request a copy of my divorce certificate, i was asked for a case number but i told the guy at the counter that the Dept of Home Affairs didn't have a case number for me. I expected the High Court to be tops on the latest technology maybe the best computer system in SA but lo and behold they don't have one single computer there lol. The guy at the counter said if i don't have a case number(not my fault) then i can't be helped. I was then led to a small room with about 40 file boxes and i was told to start going through all the files to look for a case number, now tell me really should i be doing this? I checked about 6 boxes and eventually gave up. So what do i do now? I've written to my attorney and asked him to give me an affidavit saying that he handled my divorce and that the High Court cannot issue me with a divorce certificate. Without this i am stuffed i can kiss going to the Philippines goodbye and do you think that they care? All this guy wanted to do was go on lunch, i mean they're not the most hardworking people in government service. |

Lol millenia they're off the hook checked with the bureau of immigration in the philippines and i don't need a divorce certificate, where is this country going to? Police dockets go missing, no uniformity in government departments, corruption is alive and well, no one in the government gets investigated for any criminal actions

Well you dealt with home affairs and they would need to go thrugh the high court in order to liquidate the marriage, now is there any chance you can go back to home affairs have them pull their file and get your case number from it?

Home Affairs has no record of my divorce whatsoever and no files and nothing on their computer and as for the High Court well that is just a total waste of time.I've spoken to my attorney to ask him for an affidavit because now apparently i need the divorce certificate to get married and he has told me that he can't help me because he destroyed his records after 5 years which he has to do by law. Now i am in really deep because without this piece of paper i'm stuffed may as well stay here |

Only problem is Nitro Guy is that i went back to Home Affairs yesterday and they suggested i go to the divorce court but going back to the High Court on monday and have got a friend to help me go through the records, my attorney was of no help he just ignored my e-mail, i need that certificate bad now lol otherwise i can't get on the plane on the 6th March. System really sucks. I read on a forum that if Home Affairs does not have my case number then i could still be married, but it shows on their records that i am no longer married. They still don't have a case number just shows you how disorganised they are at the High Court |

Attorney suggested that i try 1993 because he can't remember when he handled the divorce. Now my ex has got a copy of the decree and she won't answer my phone calls or my sms messages,so i think it's best to ask my attorney to act for me as far as she is concerned, wonder why women are so nasty and miserable at times? Maybe jealous cos i'm marrying someone a lot younger than she is and i'll be far happier than she is too |

At least it is getting sorted out. Just be kind and send the ex pics of the wedding - she helped to make it possible after all.
