QUOTE Teri's Facelift Fury Fortysomething actress Teri Hatcher is so gorgeous, you'd be forgiven for wondering if she's gone under the knife. So you can imagine her surprise to read, not that she'd had cosmetic surgery... but just how much she needed it. Teri, 41, was appalled when she found out that a picture of her face was going to be used as a demonstration of women who needed plastic surgery. "Forty was an amazing year for me. I got my first beauty campaigns with Clairol and Hydroderm," said the Desperate Housewives and V star. "So you might understand my surprise when a magazine emailed me, cheerily informing me that they were going to print my photo alongside... recommendations as to the kind of 'work' I needed. Advertisement Teri emailed right back: "What kind of message do you think you are sending to women, when you tell them that a celebrity - Teri Hatcher, a woman who has had a second chance, who has a great year, a great job, won awards, made money, and has a beautiful daughter - that even she needs plastic surgery to be 'better'? Wow, that's telling 'em, girlfriend. The episode is described in Teri's autobiography, Burnt Toast... in which she also revealed she'd been abused as a child. Source - Sky Showbiz Well, that is just ridiculous. But to be honest, I don't see what is SOOO special about her - she just looks old and a bit manly to me - but that is in no way saying I think she needs plastic surgery. I am personally very against plastic surgery, especially because it gives people a falls ideas to what "better" or "perfect" is. Natural people are sexy for being natural, not for being made up mainly of silicone or botox. -------------------- |

Yeah, Teri Hatcher isn't my cup of tea either but she still looks fine for her age. I am not against plastic surgery cos I feel that everyone should do what they feel like, it gets sad though when u can't take satisfaction out of ur natural flaws / strengths, perfection is so boring anyway
But yeah, some people get born with huge disorders and I am sure they are glad that there is something that can be done about it... -------------------- Locke: If it's not real, then what are you doing here, Jack? Btw, maybe I should add in..
Plastic surgery, performed on people that have nothing wrong with them - and are just doing it because they want to look a certain way is what I disagree with. This post has been edited by toasted: Jun 6 2006, 10:01 AM |

QUOTE Teri's Facelift Fury The episode is described in Teri's autobiography, Burnt Toast... in which she also revealed she'd been abused as a child. Shortcuts are cooler. Well clearly, we think differently. I honestly find someone that is not perfect sexier than someone who is the definition of "sexy" - and I in fact know a lot of people that feel that way. Secondly, there is a HUGE difference between plastic surgery and healthy living. How can you even make a comparison between the two. That is a reallly screwed up analogy. Watching what I eat in no way makes me become a different person, an unnatural person. I have learnt to accept that this is who I am, and always will be. Why would I want to CHANGE that? However, I do want to make the most of what good looks I do have - utilise them. Rather than become fake, and just the definition of what "perfect" is. I want to be ME. Teri used to do it for me in a MAJOR way back in the days of Lois And Clark.
Yeah, I am also against plastic surgery, unless you NEED it, like if u got burned or something, but for vanity, nah. I'm kinda looking forward to growing old, cause then I REALLY dont have to give a rats ass about my body, and then my stomach can sweep the floor or summin'... -------------------- "Bigotry and hatred are enemies to us all. Lobo, you must be the only person I know who would not only think about something like that, but actually 'wish'/'hope' for it.
The only possible exception I'd ever consider making, is if being overweight gave me Sammo Hung-like abilities. Sorry, been watching too much Hong Kong movies lately. Seriously though, I suppose that if you're seriously deformed then plastic surgery is an option for something that has obviously gone wrong. But like Lobo said, as far as vanity is concerned, I don't condone it. It even makes you *look* unnatural. This post has been edited by Yakman: Jun 7 2006, 03:42 AM

Bwhaha!
Looks like a fight club topic in the making! Before this escalates, if y'all want to discuss the pro's and cons of plastic surgery, hoow about a thread in fight club? I didn't even know who Teri Hatcher was until I googled her! She is/was pretty hawt... -------------------- The trouble isn't that there is too many fools but that the lightning isn't distributed right.

No, it's not a screwed up analogy. You are doing them for the same reasons. Also... do you wear make-up, earrings etc.? I don't think you really read my last post. I am against it because it is PERMANENTLY changing who you are and how you look. Yes, occasionally I will wear make-up. Occasionally, I will wear earrings. (Not every day though - it isn't entirely my thing). BUT, the whole point, like I said before is: eat well, dress well, take care of yourself to enhance what you have. NOT to change what you have. Make-up and earrings do not change me permanently. Make-up and earrings do not make me look like a different person. They may however, help me to make the most of my current looks. As perfectly said by Yakman regarding plastic surgery (or should we call it cosmetic surgery).. QUOTE It even makes you *look* unnatural. 'Nuff said. I don't think there should be any need for this to go to Fight Club, personally. |

It however raises interesting moral questions. Do people who believe in God think plastic surgery is good? After all we are just souls in his work etc....
Like I said, everyone is free to feel good and if you feel good with big tits, a plastic smile, botox under your skin and fourteen ass implants...so be it. I will never do that though and I'll probably never get that kind of surgery (unless I end up in a frea accident). |

And plastic surgery doesn't make you look like a different person... you're watching too much Nip/Tuck. And in the same breathe as you say taking care of what you have enhances... I think that cosmetic surgery also enhances. This post has been edited by Heir_of_Isildur: Jun 7 2006, 11:31 AM |

plastic surgery is used by people to make them look different. extreme makeover? doctor 90210?
the only difference is that in extreme makeover, the people kinda needed it a bit more than teri hatcher. i think that it's ok to have plastic surgery when your current appearance detrements your enjoyment of life ie., people _say_ you are ugly. these celebrities do it for the ex-boyfriend, an increased pay cheque a cover of a magazine. this is not enhancement of current features, it is changing yourself P-E-R-M-A-N-E-N-T-L-Y for other people or whatever. -------------------- |

QUOTE(toasted) Make-up and earrings do not make me look like a different person. I could disagree with that. But let's not go off-topic. At least, not any more than we already have. QUOTE(Juca) I will never do that though and I'll probably never get that kind of surgery Or could it be because you are already perfect, hmm? QUOTE(Juca) perfection is so boring anyway Sounds like someone is speaking from experience. Personally, I reckon that as soon as you add anything to yourself permanently that's not suppose to be there naturally, then it's not longer just 'enhancing'. Then it becomes tampering. You're tampering with something that ain't broke. Unless of course you've got a third nipple on your forehead, or missing an eyelash or something.
