Now with only just over a year to go the World Soccer Cup will be here. In all honesty what is your opinion? Do you think that we are ready and able to really host this event? Have you seen any new transport around your city? Only thing i've seen here in Cape Town is one red tourist bus and one hell of a lot of noisy hooting taxis. Do we have enough accommodation? We still have the normal amount of available rooms here nothing more has been accommodated for the hundreds of thousands of soccer fans from all corners of the globe. I just hope that it goes off without any snags

If you decide to do so make sure that the deposit is 12 times the rent because your place may get trashed crying.gif

The accommodation shouldn't be a problem. The public transport is possibly gonna be a headache. We shall wait and see if the stadiums will be up to date.

I will tell tourists that I am the long-lost great-grandson on Nelson Mandela, and charge them R500 per picture to pose with me... devil.gif

Just about the world cup in general, the visitors, nothing really pertaining to the games. Just want to know whether SA could deliver. Thanks Fishfly. I'm leaving end March and will online within a few days again. drunk.gif

Was in durbs for the weekend and i must say, if they get that Peter Machaba stadium finished in time it's going to look awesome.

Funniest bit? It's right next to the Shark tank and it makes that place look tiny tongue.gif

They have to complete it by the end of March in terms of their contract apparently the hold up was because of faulty roof panels made in Kuwait. It's only the roof panels that has held them up. Saw it on the news it's really awesome. The one they're building in Cape Town is awesome and very big and is nowhere near completion but when finished will really be something to look at. Don't know how they will utelise it when the world cup is finished because the previous stadium was a white elephant ermm.gif

If I were a soccer club in SA I would be trying to secure one of the new stadiums as my home ground. Orlando stadium was recently refurbished and if I remember correctly Kaizer Chiefs were building a massive stadium.

South Africa are bidding for a Rugby World Cup (correct me if I'm wrong), so I would imagine they are going to be using the new collection of stadias as a drawing point in their bid.

But other than that, I also don't know what they plan on doing with them once the world goes home.

I dunno guys, I think that world cup itself will pay for stadiums, so who gives a shit what happens to them afterward? They will be used for another 30 years for various things. The money is coming to the country, the exposure is coming to the country, and tourism and confidence in the country is going to skyrocket (if we pull it off of course...)

I might not be right, but that's just my opinion.

If you don't own any property in SA yet, now would be the time to get some!! Bookmark this thread, cause by 2011 property prices are going to go through the roof. In 2011, come back to this thread, and if I was right, send cheque. biggrin.gif

I'm toying with the idea of offering homestay to Japanese visitors. homestay is quite a big thing in Japanland, where visitors live with families, and learn more about different cultures etc.

I think that mindset is a problem the whole country has - "just wait for 2010".

It is literally like 1 month. Then everyone goes home and people are left with all the property they bought, their converted house bed and breakfasts and whatever ridiculous things people are doing for this one event.

It's not a miracle cure for the core problems this country has. Crime will not go away. Corrupt politicians will not resign. Everything will still be there and nothing will change.

I never said anything about crime, politicians or any problems with the country. I also didn't say "just wait for 2010". smile.gif All I said was that the property market in South Africa will be in an upswing by 2011.

I think we are ready to host it. We've hosted major tourneys before. smile.gif
