So here she is, in stock form - my 2004 Black Magic Polo 1.4i. Features: 2 x Airbags. Power Steering. Central locking. Adjustable headlights (3 different positions). Aircon. ABS. All round disc brakes (vented in front, solids in rear). 14" Alloys (Stock) Now I have bought a set of 16" Golf 4 GTi rims, they need a slight refurb and tyres. I might be customising them to match the color of my car with a polished lip to off set all the black. I need to do some photo-shopping. I've attached a pic o the rims for those interested. I need to do some research to see if the 16' rims will affect my power steering (and there fore the attached warranty), I know that the TDi's in this range had 16's but the tyre profiles were different. I believe these rims will see me running low profile tyres (haven't yet found out the correct/recommended tyre specs). Will update this thread again after I've done the relevant reading. I am also now looking for a set of TDi spots and lower grille plates for the spots. If I can, I'll take the wiring harness aswell. Might aswell use all the correct kit no? I've also skimmed a guide on how to change the 3mm Red alarm LED to a 3mm Blue LED. Will have another look at it a bit later today.

Doesn't the Polo wheels have 4 bolts and the GTI 5?

Nope, these 9N Polo's are 5x100 PCD.
The older 6N (more square) Polo's were 4x100 PCD. |

Wolf do you think the MK4 GTi 16's will put additional strain on my power steering?
I need to find out if the TDi's use the same power steering setup as the petrol 1.4i's. If they do, I might be able to get away with these rims. If not, I might flog them and then get 15's from the same range. |

I cant honestly tell, but there should be no differance between the 15 and 16 inch if it is of the same range and if fitted with tyres with the same Circumference.

I got 15" on mine, and they work just fine.
Side note: don't know about the 16's, but the 15's make a hell of a difference when it comes to handling (compared to my old polo). -------------------- <null signature>

Yeah, 15's are excellent for road holding and performance.
I think if the 16's don't work out I will go for the 15's from the face lift polo's. Rolling on 14's feel so funny! |

Do you have a plan in mind for what you'd like to do to the car or are you gonna just chop and change/upgrade etc. as you go along?
The last thread was a beast. I'm pretty stoked to see what you get up to with the Polo. -------------------- |

I've been browsing tons of forums for an idea of what to do.
I am fairly limited to what I can do with my warranty in place. I went for a 50% Smash & Grab on this car because 35% would've made the car too dark. I want to do things differently with this car, I want her to be different, but in a very subtle way. She's already debadged at the back so some people expect a 1.6i. Think I am mostly going OEM+ with this car. Everything changed will be stock VW parts, only better. With the Golf it was balls to the wall, there was no mistake what she was about. she was fast, loud and looked the part. Man I miss Malibu some times I am looking for something unique but I will get an idea of what I want to do with her as I do the relevant reading. I *might've* found a set of seat in black leather, apparently from a wrecked 1.9 TDi. I am trying to arrange a visit tonight or tomorrow. If they are they heated Recaro's I'll be really chuffed... if I could get the wiring and other kit to get them working... I'd be even happier. The door cards will be different coz I don't have the electric windows but the insert can stay grey cloth. I want to see if I can get the roof lining aswell. Think they were light grey vinyl, but can't remember 100%. Found this pic of a Polo on Phat 5's! Hehe. This post has been edited by rurounikenshin: Jul 22 2008, 08:49 AM

Here's an example of the Polo Cup bodykit for the Facelift 9N Polo.
The version for my pre-facelift one is slightly different. How awesome are those rims?

the sportech Kit looks super awesome on the double light polo.... have you checked it out? i've only seen two on the road with it fitted... so it should do wonders for individuality.

Yeah I've had a look. I mate of mine with a silver TDi has one on his Polo. Very nice, subtle and not over the top. I am currently looking for a VSV Body kit, I will post some pics of what it looks like. In the whole country I have only seen 1 Polo with this kit and that had the full thing, even the vinyls! Yum yum. This post has been edited by rurounikenshin: Jul 24 2008, 01:45 AM |

firstly congrats on getting the Polo - its a great car and im sure it will give you lots of happy motoring
i dont think that the 16" wheels will give you a problem considering that they are factory standard on the polo gti - i was using 18" rims on my gti and the only problems i had related to tyres and not the rims i am now using 205/40/17 tyres on 17' rims and having absolutely zero problems with rims or tyres - so i think that the 16 inchers should be fine in your car with 205/45/16 tyres heres a pic of what my car looks like now - this is with anthracite rims with a silver lip ![]() heres some 17' gti replica's on your shape of car with a 40mm drop - looks awesome IMHO - i doubt you will have problems with 17" rims on your car if you want to go that big ![]() This post has been edited by naughty: Jul 24 2008, 08:45 PM |

Hey Naughty! Thanks mate. I like the headlights on that GTi of yours! blacked out always looks better to me I was looking at those exact 17's just yesterday infact. Might try photo-shop those rims onto my car a bit later this weekend. The cost on 17' tyres is also better than 16' so I will more than likely go that route. The 40mm drop looks awesome! Do you know what he used? Eibach? Koni? My car currently looks like a mini 4x4! It's so high up on the stock springs! |
