Hi all

I'm thinking of upgrading to an XFX 9800gt 512 card (or maybe 1GB, depending on price). It's requirements state it needs 26A on the 12V rail. Now I know that the 26A won't solely be used by the card but rather is an estimation of how much current a typical system would need to run properly. I have a Gigabyte Superb Power 460w PSU, which has two +12V rails, +12V1 supplies 18A and +12V2 supplies 16A. Will it be able to cope with the new card? My specs are in my sig.

Unfortunately not... given that the 9800gt requires about 270W on load and 176 on idle...

as for the 512MB vs 1gig the only benefit you will get from 1gig is if you running resolution of 1680x1050 and upwards...

The price of the 9800gt is around 2k in SA... I would rather get myself a 4850 (around R1800) that out performs the 9800 wink.gif

Excuse the fanboyism but I'm sticking with nvidia biggrin.gif
I just realized that it's only got 15A and 14A on the rails. What is a good PSU that I can buy for under R100 that will power this card?

There is no such thing. Bargain on a couple of rands for a good one.

fanboyism = noob tongue.gif

as for PSU for under 1k hmmm

I think you can get a 650W decent one... don't bother with the crappy brands as their rails are not half as stable as a decent psu

Don't think I need 650w. I've only got 4 fans and one aftermarket cpu cooler, one ODD and one HDD.

EDIT: I just checked how much power my current 460w can push, 400w continuous, 460w peak, 384w on the 12V. Still sure it won't cope?
EDIT EDIT: Link

Decided to rather go with a 9600GT. Can't afford 9800GT and a new PSU.
