First of all i'm sorry that i was lax with the polls in recent time - i was a bit busy but now i am back with it!

The Iraq War!!

Yep the groans can be heard. People say that the war can not be won with conventional fighting techniques that the US coailtion is using.

But will Diplomacy, the exact opposite of Violence work either!

Get those opinions in guys!!

No

War nor diplomacy is going ot stop the conflict

The militia can't be helped. They should be left alone and they will soon find out that they can not run the country and when that happens they will cede power back to the people - then the UN can move in

REASONING from the Cambodian history soon after the Vietnam Occupation

Diplomacy - I dont see it happenning.

The US causd a major fuck up when used fictitous WMD's as a pretense to go to war.

As dodgy as Iraq was to live in under Sadamm at least there was some society, some law and some peace.

Now, its just uber chaos. The US has opened up centuries old rivalries and conflicts along tribal and sectarian lines. Shiites killing Sunni's and vice versa. Its a civil war!

Its not going to stop any time soon and I doubt diplomacy is going to do anything. It rarely does in the middle east!

I would beg ot idffer on that point Dr. Death. Diplomacy is about reaching a peaceful concluysion to a dispute. I would think that Diplomacy should be triued and only after that fails i would authorize force.

However in the case of Iraq i would make a huge exception - it is obvious that all thgese bastards think about is violence and killing there own people. Violence will not work, but neither is diplomacy

Shiites killing Sunni's has been going on for centuries, thousands were murdered under Saddams rule, you just didnt hear about it in the press.

Is the place better off now? Yes
Is it safe? No
Will it ever be a peaceful country? No

Tribal/secterian violence will always be around, no democracy or dictatorship will stop that. People hate people and always will, simple.

Lets say on average 100 people die a day, consider that what 50 die in SA and we are "at peace"

What is happening in iraq is nothing compared to what goes on in other areas of Africa (darfur anyone?) The only reason its such a hot topic is because the US and its allies are involved, if they were not there the same violence would be going on, we just wouldnt hear about it.

It's too late for a diplomatic end to the war.

There are too many people who just wont compromise. That means there will be no diplomatic solution.
It is actually pretty hopeless.

Just as here in SA, the one tribe oppressed the other tribe for a very long time. The difference is that when the ruling tribe in Iraq was removed from power, they turned to violence and started to commit acts of terrorism.

There is a growing posibility that Iraq will be split into perhaps 3 regions for Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds.
