A few months ago i invested some money with my bank. I also enquired whether it would be possible to transfer money overseas via my credit card if i am living overseas and they said no problem, all i had to do was to sign an imdemnity so that if i send them an e-mail then they will transfer what ever i need. So i thought that i would test the system today and asked them to please transfer funds into my savings account on a certain date and to my horror i received an e-mail from them stating that i would have to come in to the bank to organise it with them, but i did sign an indemnity giving them permission to do so. Does that mean that everytime i want funds to be transferred then i have to fly back to SA to give them permission? lol thumbdown.gif

Perhaps they have not updated their systems with regards to the indemnity that you signed. Kinda risky though using e-mail to get a transfer done. Does the indemnity ONLY allow transfers between pre-determined accounts, because if not, it would be MUCH safer to do things in this manner...

I signed the indemnity a month ago i think they have just forgotten. They would transfer the money into my savings account and then i will transfer to my credit card through internet banking which so far is safe, and from my credit card to my overseas account which is quite expensive but what method isn't?

You've got it right there. Now listen to this they charge R 18.00 per transaction if you transfer money overseas into another account plus R 0.95 c per R 100 and guess whose money i'm using? Not the banks but mine!!! Now tell me if this is robbery or not lol, so the charges to transfer R 500,000 will cost me R 4,750.00 plus R 18.00 for the transaction. Can it get any worse?? thumbdown.gif

That's sick. You should ask around at other banks though, see if any rebates can be offered for what you want to do...

What kind of stone age bank are you using? Sending an e-mail asking them to transfer money? Geez I would not be comfortable with that at all. Don't you have internet access to your bank accounts? just transfer money into your credit card, or am I missing a bit of important info here?

If you have money invested on a fixed term you cannot transfer it yourself it can only be done by the branch where your account is held. I have those investment accounts in my profile but have tried to move some of the money from one account to another but it does not accept it. And living overseas that's the only way that i can transfer money into an account eek.gif

My bank told me that i can withdraw a maximum amount of R 10,000 overseas and only pay R 15.00 per transaction but i can only withdraw R 2000 at a time and still pay R 15.00 per transaction. I could moer the person at nedbank for telling me that it's better and cheaper to use a debit card overseas when in fact traveller's cheques would have been easier sad.gif
